Epson P5000 ?

Postby shutterbug on Tue Mar 13, 2007 4:21 pm

Anyone have the Epson P5000? How is the battery life?

I am thinking about getting one as an onsite backup & rough edit device.

Cheers

Ive used one, the screen is great, its fast and its can view CR2 raw files. I liked it but its very costly.

Cheaper devices around that do the same job

Still deciding if I should an import one or local.

Vince, the screen is what sets it apart from the competition, super high res 4" LCD and it allows you to check focus easily. Its really nice...

Alpha_7 has the competition and its what Im going to buy. Vosonic 8360/8390 drives are just as good and allow you to add your own drives. The Epsons downside is lack of drive space

Canon are also bringing one out soon, the M80 which also looks good.

How is the battery life in the Vosonic 8360/8390 ?

Would it last a whole wedding, downloading about 12 gigs and rough edit too?

10 Gig of D200 Raws got it to halfway at the cricket, I then used it as a mp3 play for the walk and trainride home, still had juice after playing music for nearly 2 hours.

As far as Editing, I just view the photos, don't think you can edit (unless you mean delete crap ones) and I don't do that either.

i saw one its still as slow copying and flicking through images as the epson p2000
just has a bigger hard drive and more features

and i don't think it can zoom into raw files which has been an issue withthe p2000

but the screen is the best youll see so its great as a viewing device

dont knwo about the battery but the p2000 battery cant do the distance

Vince

I bought a Vosonic 8360 (same as Craig) for my recent 3 week NZ trip. I considered the Epson, but it just plain lost out on price. The Vosonic is also quite well supported (via the original manufacturer - mmv)and firmware upgrades are readily available and easy to make

The Vosonic screen was more than enough for me to do first cut image deletions, but it has no tagging (you delete as you go). It supports NEFs although I suspect it's using the embedded NEF preview, but regardless it is more than sufficient even when you zoom in a bit (which it certainly does very well - you can pan and zoom like you do on the back of the camera). It shows the EXIF data on screen and a histogram if that's what you want (can be turned on or off)

I opted for a 120Gb model. It uses stock standard Fuji batteries and came with a second (OEM) battery when purchased. I also purchased separately an OEM fast charger for the Fuji battery. With the 2 batteries I never had a problem.

Bottom line - for me I'm more than happy with the purchase and if making the same decision again wouldn't hesitate to choose the 8360 again.

I lost my last week, still hoping it shows up but I think someone has found it and pocketed it. I'll be waiting a little while, just in case but I'll be buying another, I'm to used to using it now.

You can zoom into the CR2s on the P5000, I did it when I was playing with one and I thought it was fairly fast!
