Canon Flash set-up help

Postby Sherlock on Mon Mar 19, 2007 3:26 pm

Hello all,

First post here in Canon Coral, after some advice to which flash set-up to buy for my D30.
I was after a simple all round type flash that's not going to be overly expensive.....suggestions?

Elementary!! 430EX

Good to start off with and then can be used as a slave to a 580Ex in the future

Now let me also add that you need to keep the Guide numbers in mind taking into account your existing lenses

http://photonotes.org/articles/eos-flash/ some light reading on the topic

another flash to consider is the Sigma EF-500 DG Super,
I've got one, but I'd say that the build quality (on mine at least) isn't so good.
I treat with care and the switch is broken - an excuse for me to upgrade!

Just unreliable - especially when on camera - I turn the flash off to take a photograph without flash, and it stays on and fires! but I'm probably going to keep it as a slave :D horhorhor
