Cars and numberplates...

Hey guys

I covered an event recently for a car club, and nearly all of the members on teh day have asked me to edit my uploaded images to blur their plates and reupload them...

I'm mostly happy to do it (apart from the ~120 images i have to do)...

Keen to see if many/any others have encountered similar situations??

If they have issues with it, then don't upload them. Just email it to the members - saves you from having to edit 120 odd photos.

In future, ask the owner first and if they don't want their number plate displayed, then borrow a screwdriver and remove the plates - with the owner's permission of course

I have heard of people being concerned of recording their car rego when they are racing their cars (due to manufacturers voiding their warranty claims after a weekend on the track). but that the only reason.

Eg. buy a GT3, race it around the mountain, take it back to Porsche, and say the gear box is a little noisy from my run down to the milk bar...

The situation was a car audio club SQ test event, and the photos have only been displayed on their forums

Quite a common request Kyle. I always edit out plates on club based events I attend, takes a little bit of time but it keeps everyone happy and still gets your photos out there!

I know a few think of the manufacturers warranty side of things, others are more worried about the Police or criminal element. Mind you at the audio based events the cars are that unique that number plates don't add any identifying marks!

Brett PS. (edit) I forgot to mention I always ask people to tell me if they don't want their plates shown, this can reduce the amount of editing required too

If they don't want their plates displayed I suggest they cover them with duct tape at the meet. I've been at WSID a number of times & that's what they do there.

Also, just because you have taken images of their car doesn't mean that someone else didn't, the duct tape is the only way to ensure that no images of their car & plates make their way to the web.

You are correct, any given track day ( bike / car ) @ Eastern Creek there is a "representative" from the insurance company sitting there recording number plates of vehicles entering.

You'll be amazed at how many people drop there bikes and then say they did it on the road as a "single vehicle accident".

People are generally quite stupid about putting their number plates on the Internet.
It appears that savvy criminals scour the net in the hope that they'll see number plates on cars that they want to steal.
Then they'll submit a request to the relative department of motor vehicles to get the residential address (which you'll need ID to do, and a fee) so that they can go around and steal them.

Regardless of the fact that they drove their car past heaps of people as they got to the event.

its not that im worried about...its cops scouring the net.... thus keep mouth shut on net about ur vehicular escapades

if your too lazy to take off plates in the first place, someones bound to see it during a meet.

besides you should bring that up during drivers briefing, next thing you know they want their faces edited out.
