Samsung Panels

hey guys... im looking at getting a new pc and monitor, but i cant afford an EIZO. Does anyone know what the Samsung Panels are like? they seem good from what i have seen so far, in particular im looking at the 215TW 21"

any help would be greatly appreciated, sorry about starting anohter monitor thread...

I have the basic, but well priced, Samsung 920N (19"). With a Huey for color claibration, its a great starting point. Think I paid about $480 a year ago, they are down to about $350 now.

I've just been through the same exercise, looking for a screen with good colour accuracy, to help with editing in PS. After much research, I decided on the Samsung 244T , a 24" panel that receives very good reviews in many publications. The only dilemma I have now is awaiting delivery .... 7 weeks and still waiting on a slow boat to arrive in Oz !! Oh well, the warranty on my new PC starts when I take delivery.

oh cool, i was hoping that no one would say "no stay away" because they are very well priced. the one im looking at has the cool 90 degree rotate feature for portrait style shots, comething i really like about it. thanks guys.

The 215tw is an excellent monitor, nice pick

I have a dell 2005fpw 20" ws. it's calibrated, and also works great in portrait orientation

I'd go the samsung though

I have a Dell 2407 24" at work and also one at home. Both are colour accurate and I'm more than happy with them. The 24" can be rotated for portrait or landscape mode. It's regularly on sale at around the 1K mark eg as I write this it is $999 until 6/4

I'm not sure what the Samsung price is, but both are very good monitors

I've got the Viewsonic VX2025WM here and I was originally going to go for a 20" Samsung, but while the specs said they were 16.7 mil colours, they were actually 16.2

I think the 215TW is definitely 16.7 mil, but call them and make sure you talk with someone who can get you the exact answer just in case.

Likewise, the new Dell 20 and 22's have 16.2's in them but still sell for the same Dell price.

I have the 215tw and I think it is great. I have not printed a heap of photos yet after processing them on this monitor, but I have calibrated it in anticipataion. Overall the picture is great , but I have had some issues with the software they provide, magic tune, so I do not use it. The auto-rotate feature is good, as it automatically adjusts the resolution when you rotate the screen from landscape to portrait. I don't use it much but viewing Chimp e-zine full screen in portrait shows off the images really well as the pages fill virtually the whole screen.
It is defintely an 8-bit screen

That sounds like a good price... I've had the Samsung 215TW for a few months now and have been very happy with it. The ability to rotate it is very nice. I think the colours are better than the Viewsonic VX2025WM (I have 2 of those at work and spend a lot of time staring at them!). My only problem now is that I want another 215TW because I've become rather hooked on the dual monitor setup!
