What is your personal photographic journey? In a photographic sense, how did you start, and with what equipment? How have you progressed, and where are you, and your photographic skillset, placed today?
This is a place where members may share their personal photographic journey. Some of our normal posting rules are suspended within this section. To illustrate you story, for instance, you may post more than the normal 4 or so images. In fact, we actively encourage you to share with us images that illustrate how your photography has changed since you started. So readers with slower connections please be warned that postings made within this section may be - will be - larger than the norm.

Hi everyone,
I’d love to see more photos in this section, so I’m doing my bit to generate interest in photographic journeys  . Unfortunately, I don’t have the time to put together a comprehensive story a la Norbs as I’m currently supposed to be working on my thesis (only 18,000 words to go!).
What I’m posting here is a bit different. It’s a collection of photos taken in Maroubra, where Kris (Macka on the forum) & I have lived for the past 2 years. I’m lazy, so I’ve only posted images which were already sitting on the server (there’s a message in this – never clean out your file server  ) There’s no specific theme or story at work, and the images are in only vaguely chronological order, but I hope it gets a few other people interested in sharing their own photographic journey
Finally, this is an edited list of what I consider my better photos from Maroubra (probably have 10Gbs of Maroubra shots on the HD  ). Most of them are from the last 6 months or so, as I think that it took around 18 months of owning a camera before I really started to develop a photographic eye.
C&C are welcome although not expected in this section .
Maroubra: A Photographic Exploration
Shot for an old OCAU challenge, the theme was ‘Potential Hazard.’

My IR filter has accompanied Kris & I on many afternoon walks, and dramatically increased the keeper rate when shooting in harsh light.
Wouldn’t be Maroubra without the Bra Boys

Great stuff Patrick. I'd have liked a bit more commentary, but given your working on your thesis.. you could be sick of writing..
I was thinking if Gary approves, that I might try something similar with my upcoming trip to Boston.. I am hoping to get out and about a bit, and there are plenty of historic building and sites etc.. but will see.

great stuff Patrick! It's also interesting to see not only a journey into Malloubra, but also your photographic growth and expression of that growth in this series.

Excellent series, kept me interested right through. I would like to have seen the two people+bicycle image without the bike, just a thought.

I really like some of these Patrick. The one with the guy swimming with the red swim cap is really nice. I just wonder if you could PP him out and see what it's like without. It's a bit distracting with the motion blur i think. But i really like these shots. Nice stuff.

As an ex-Bra local for about 14 years, I was very moved by your images. Thank you for reviving my passion for Sydney's beachside suburbs. Even though I live about 60km west now from there. :)
Maroubra is a special place for me for sure.

Although I rarely go there, this is true for me as well: my first memory of life is actually from Maroubra, which is where my family was living when I was very young. We then moved to Kingsford, but I also remember spending summers at Maroubra Beach (amongst other places) and I really should get out and revisit some of these places. g.
