$75! How do you compete Padey!http://cgi.ebay.com.au/WEDDING-PHOTOGRA ... dZViewItem
Crikey. That must be the cheapest wedding package I've seen. Ever.
..judging from the photo posted on ebay, an overexposed sunset with some silhouettes in the foreground
Takes all kinds to make a world.

hehe from his feedback, he buys
"PERMANENT WEIGHT LOSS Subliminal CD" I wonder if he has previously bought "YOU CAN SHOOT WEDDINGS submininal CD" ?? J
Under-exposed, poor composition, wrong wb, no fill flash....
Geiff, you're looking for someone to shoot your wedding, aren't you? My guess is that this "package" is merely the cost of shooting. He goes out and shoots, and maybe gives you a CD of proofs. Perhaps he's running just cash in hand - no pp - and hoping to get some extra cash? g.

If this person is serious, then we should encourage her. Perhaps she is starting out, and keen to build a book. This is an ebay add, so starting price may be below reserve. Also, the internet is a very transparent place, this person may observe the work in here, and be an active member some day (or may already be).
I know I dont like the 300 emails I field each day...
Anyway, I'm not saying this example is comparable to the brilliant work of Padey, but just to say we should encourage, particularly as this is directly a topic we all love, and an interest we share.
..she also should try and be realistic to be taken seriously. FFS anyone who advertises wedding shots from $75 deserves a bit of public ridicule...
This also depends upon the specific market place that a person wishes to place themselves within. Not everybody wants - or can afford - a $2k/$5K/$10K whatever wedding photography package. Yes, it's a nice dream, some people may just want a simple record of the day - perhaps a second (or third) marriage, or a reaffirmation of vows - and an elaborate coverage is either inappropriate or unaffordable. That said, my criticisms of the image presented in the ad still stand, but as Bruce suggests, perhaps some encouragement might be an interesting approach. g.

agree on Gary's image critique.
If one had $3000 max for an entire wedding, then $75 for the services of an up coming tog would sound like a budget well balanced to me. On the flip side, if the tog had very little experience, and say was still at school (photography or other) then $75 give the opportuntity to shoot the wedding, and since the customer paid somehting, the "photos time" would be taken a little more seriously than "free" services are. The $75 starting bid, might be well placed. The location of the market, may be near the location posted in the ebay add, Franston, Victoria, which is worlds away from the wedding budgets of say customers in Paddington, New South Wales.
Oz, you make some good points...
As long as the buyer isn't expecting $3000 coverage. This could be a great way for them to gain experience. I would probably pay $75 if I could go an take the pics of someones wedding just for the experience. Good luck to them, but ebay will bring you ridicule.. Cheers MATT
My first wedding was done way less than that, for the sake of experience. Its a great start but advertising that and getting it serious for the others, I'm not sure if it is appropriate. Selling yourself in public cheap at start will get you a very slow grow....
My lesson learned, don't do weddings for free...
Well, the title is "wedding photography cheap-professional-quality".
Goodluck to the person, I hope they succeed from their small start and large opposition. ---

I appreciate all the well meaning 'just starting out', 'have to start somewhere', encouragement .... but the following quote from the ad seems out of place. "Look around first, you won't find a better price (or a better photographer!) anywhere, I can guarantee it!"
That is setting expectations a bit high if you are just starting out and want to break into the market. Craig

agree, its sets the high expectations, I read it with the potential that english is not the first language...
possibly meaning "try and find a better photographer, for the price"
The thing is, there currently is no "price" - this is an auction where potential purchasers will determine a price. Let's say this ends up finishing at $1,000 - what has happened is that the vendor is saying she is the best at $75 - but at $1,000 you are being ripped off! If she had set a Buy It Now price of $75, then her comment is more logical. Anyway, I know what I mean P Regards, Patrick

I think the operative phrase here is "packages from $75.00". The question is ... what is IN the $75.00 package? Could be anything. And then if the couple want more ... how much more does more cost?
A very successful wedding photographer friend of mine uses ebay as an advertising tool and advertises his "package" at ... $1.00. Yes, $1.00. And what do the couple get for $1.00? They get an introductory dvd of his services and 1 free shot. That's his "$1.00" package. And, believe it or not, he says he has got heaps of business from it. Personally, I wish this shooter well and hope she has success. I started out doing weddings for free wherever and whenever I could and know it's hard going sometimes, so I can only wish her the best. Good luck to her, imho. Nikon D70, Nikon D200, Nikon F100, Nikon 18-70mm, Nikon 50mm, Nikon 17-55mm, Nikon 85mm, Nikon 24mm, Nikon 60mm, Nikon 105mm, Tamron 70-300, SB800, SB28, LSPJ
