What lens Was Used?

Postby Pehpsi on Sun Apr 22, 2007 8:09 pm

Anyone know how to find out what lens grant uses for his shots? They look awesomely sharp and good :)

I know the body is a 30D.

330mm, that's a big number. What does Canon offer in this size?

I think that's the only Canon that will do odd lengths (ie, zoom)over 300mm at f/5.6.

The other options are some of the 3rd party lenses like the Sigma 80-400/5.6 OS, or maybe the Sigma 120-300/2.8 <cough> with a TC. Maybe some of the 200-500-ish lenses might do 330/5.6 as well.

Grant most definitely used his 100-400 for this shot, James :)

He also has a 70-200 2.8 which he uses quite regularly.

Will I see you trackside for nitro champs? :D

ps. I greatly dislike the 100-400 :(

Theres nothing wrong with this lens, let me assure you. Maybe read the user reviews at Fredmiranda?

Looks like your original question was not answered.

Get the Opanda EXIF viewer and you can bring up the EXIF data straight from your browser. You will need the Firefox plugin (on the same page) if you use Firefox.

My objection to it is the unfortunate name, hence the <cough>. It physically cannot give you f/2.8 at 300mm as the front element is not big enough. 300/2.8=107mm, with a 105mm front element. Given edge losses, I think 100mm is a fair call for the biggest effective front aperture. The Canon 300/2.8 is 128mm diameter on the outside where the Sigma is 112mm.

Personally, I wouldn't buy one because it doesn't suit my shooting style. If it has IS (not OS) then I would quite probably own one already, but without that I think it would be unusable too often to be worth carrying around. But for people who use tripods or high shutter speeds, it's a brilliant lens. I was quite disappointed to discover that I couldn't use it when I tried it.

Yeah there's one on sunday (29th). Should be a few fuel cars there too :)

And my original Q was answered :) Just wanted to know what lens was used. Cheers.

While we're on the topic, is entry usually free for T&T events? I assume you're wanting media passes just to get over the wall?

Oh and Kyle, sorry for suggesting you could borrow my 120-300 in the other thread. I'd forgotten you'd switched to Canon, I wasn't taking the piss!

I'd say be prepared to pay $10 minimum, possibly $15.
