Does that mean you can AF and Meter with Nikon F lenses on EOS Canons?

Metering would probably be stopped down, and yes, you could mount a 70-200 VR, if it has an aperture ring.

I've never used one of these, because I can use Nikkor glass in its native habitat.

Spoke to the owner of the adapters.

His reply:

This adapter allows EOS cameras (including 5D) to give focus confirmation signal but cannot enable auto focus mechanics with Nikon AF lenses. So you will still need to adjust the focussing and aperture ring on the Nikon lenses for taking photos. And yes the light metering function is provided by every EOS cameras for third-party lenses.

So you'd have to adjust the lens manually.

Nikon has some nice, and cheaper f1.4/f1.2 lens around (the older ones) that could be of interest (58mm f1.2 & 85mm f1.4)

I guess the manual focus thing is good because its hard to see fi you've adjusted focus correctly, at least with the adapter and you turn on the focus confirmation theres a BEEP knowing you've got it right..

I imagine it would be insanely difficult to accurately focus these without a split prism, or using one of the alternate focussing screens available for the 5D. Even with a focus confirmation dot, an error of 1cm would be enough to miss focus altogether.

Yeah I know that but I mean, what if your focus on something so small you can barely see it... seems rather difficult?

Any tips? I might look at one of these old nikkor 50mm f1.2 lenses (seems cheaper than the Canon equiv)

And as for focus ... with that lens, it's almost a matter of "who cares?".

Nikon have some great older cheap lens.....
