Not sure what lens to get?i am currently looking at buying a new lens or lenses, but not sure what to get, i have a canon 350d, and the standard kit that came with it, but i am wanting to get into taking more panoramic photos, i love taking landscape photos and night shots. i also want a good lens for taking portrait photos to. im not to sure what lens i should be getting so im hoping that there is someone who can help me and give me some advice. all i know is i want a nice lens that will give me nice sharp good photos.
Hi Phil,
you probably want to get something wide. I don't use Canon so don't know how good/bad the Canon 10-20 is but I have the Tokina 12-24 and love it. I also know that the Sigma 10-20 is very well regarded. Those two lenses are very sharp and you can get them in a Canon mount. Make sure you also have a good tripod and a cable/IR shutter release. If you don't have a remote shutter release, use the timer on those long exposures. Good advice from Andre as far as the landscape is concerned, but that lens won't be any good for portraits. Unfortunately you can't do both with the one lens, not well anyway. A 28-70 is probably the closest you're going to get.
Edit: Just noticed from our bargain section that Canon makes a 17-55mm f2.8, that may be a good lens if you can afford it. __________

17-40 or 17-55 if you can afford it, if not, sigma 10-20 and a 50mm f/1.8. The 50mm is only about $150
