Tell him to put something prettier on the screen.. the Windows loading screen does not do it justice.

why would someone have a desk lamp pointed towards the monitors?

Oh, & yes, I'd love a pair myself.

You can't imagine how it feels to go to my dad's work and see 3 30" monitors on every Tom Dick and Harry's desk! I have got to try and get some of their "old and obselete" 24"-26" LCDs!
Nikon D80, MB-D80, Nikon 50mm f/1.8, Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8, SB-800, Sigma 18-200 f/3.5-6.3
Various bits of borrowed/stolen glass/speedlights etc. - zero style or taste.

3x30" monitors? WOW! What graphics card could run that? It'd be like being in a simulator. I remember a game called Jane's aircombat (or something like this) where you could set up so the extra monitors were actually looking out the side windows. Surround sound, and you'd be a Qauntas pilot in no time.
