I'm trying to figure out what will change, aside for a likely selection of product retailers becoming a link to Amazon's product page.

I've been following that site for quite some time now (since 2001). In a way, I'm kinda hoping nothing significant will change - I like it the way it is.

Quote from Phil Askey "We're aiming to expand our product coverage"... wonder what that means. Can't really expand much if the site is called DPReview. Perhaps more lens reviews?

i have always thought dpreview to be a rather dull website,

its handy if you want to find out the latest product releases, or if you want to have a look at the specs of a camera (rather than an objective review). ive always had a chuckle at how they call their 'reviews' in depth, when they are little more than an explanation of the features, etc of the camera. i guess they have to be impartial, they have lots of sponnos.

the forums are ok sometimes -- but the regular users tend to be rather cynical, although users like julia borg and thom (with some others) seem to always contribute verrrryyy interesting and useful info. i guess its just there are so many members - a lot of b/s gets posted on there

Hopefully it means faster coverage of new releases - he was whining in the Canon 1D forum the other day that he has 7 outstanding DSLR reviews so when Canon give him a 1DIII to review it'll take months to see it. Maybe if Amazon help fund him a bit he can afford to have a dedicated reviewer and actually get the "detailed" reviews out faster.

He can send one or two here. I'll review them for him. :P

Yeah, have to agree that julia borg (is that iliah in disguise ?) gives very interesting and useful information and have learnt a lot from reading his/her posts.

Will the review for products be done independantly and published fairly or is this something that will be effected by the fact that Amazon will want to sell particular makes/models?
Now that there is more retail involved i find it hard to believe that it will be completely unbiased... But i might be wrong and i hope i am.

I hope they can still provide free forum and review services at same or even better quality standards. I guess thats all we 'consumers' care about from this take over.

When Amazon took over the Internet Movie Database they pretty much left it as is (which was good).

When Amazon took over CDNow, they made it look like the rest of Amazon and ruined it as a good resource.

DPReview could go either way.
