battery grip for 30Di am after a battery grip for my 30D just want to know is there any differnce between the original battery grip and aftermarket one besides the price

Gday Zsolt!
I have the genuine battery grip on my 30D, and couldn't live without it! The ability to comfortably shoot portrait shots is a welcome change, especially with a lens of any substantial weight. I have never used the after market version, but I would imagine that it would be inferior quality. Even the genuine grip definitely feels more "plasticy" than the actual 30D body, I would dread to think what the quality of a cheaper version would be! Having said that, don't get me wrong, the genuine one is brilliant! If at all possible, I would be trying to get the genuine version. Just my $0.02, Tristan Canon User

Re: battery grip for 30D
I think there's actually a couple of third party grips aren't there? Which one(s) are you talking about?
Probably the one in the bargains section.
The genuine 20D/30D is a step down from the 10D one which was very solid. I'd say the after market ones would be inferior and seeing as I don't know anyone that has used one I wouldn't risk it failing in 6 months time. Although for 1/2 the price it might not be too bad. Canon 1D III
Tell ya what.
Give me the 30D, as I don't have one. Throw in a lens or three as well; as we all know the body is just a paperweight without one. I'll then buy myself the grip, and give you my opinion. ![]() g.

Here's a comparison between the original canon grip and an "opteka" grip.
While this is for the BG-E3 (for the 350D) while the grip in question is the BG-E2, I'm assuming that the results would be similar. edit: forgot to include the link!!!! here: http://www.michaelduvall.com/bge3/ Sending your gear to Gary is another option! Sorry, I've only got the original grip, so I can't comment on the 3rd party grip. Even though the third party grip is available, I' still go for the original - just for brand preference ![]() ---
