I have been getting the following error with regular monotony of late. It happpens at varying times of the day and from both IE and Firefox. I've had it happen at home and at work. It happens going to ANY page from ANY page so it's not associated with, say, loading the front page.
Basically I click a link, the browser spins its wheels for some time and then I get:
Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@dslrusers.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Is it just me, or is it happening to others too? PS FWIW I uses the .com url

Yep. In fact, the site is now a lot worse than it was a couple of weeks ago.
It is slow, it logs me out constantly, 404’s - you name it - very annoying, to say the least

Actually, it's been a lot better over the last three weeks than it was prior to that period, but since about Thursday of last week it's started to slow down and there have been intermittant issues, with today being worse than it has been for a while.
I logged a support issue about three hours ago.

I've been getting them no less then 20 times a day at work or at home, Dawesy has too, it's also been slow to load regardless of which connection I'm using (2mb-10mb Broadband).
(The 20 times is probably more a relfection of how long I spend browsing the forum).

It would be safe to say that Dreamhost are having issues.
That said, I may have come up with a few new solutions from random thoughts I've had today that may help rid the problem long term that I'll discuss with Dad later on tonight.

I haven't been able to get in since about 10:30am today. Lots of "Internal Server Errors" as well as critical php errors. I was trying with Firefox the whole time. I just tried with IE and got in immediately.

It's not an IE or Firefox issue. You'd have gotten it on IE, Opera, or anything powered by Mozilla (Firefox, Netscape, Safari, etc).
I look forward to Dreamhost's reason as to why it was so bad. I have my doubts about their DNS reason they were citing on their status page.

This seems to be back again and has been pretty bad for the last day or so.
Also, Search does not appear to be working properly. I tried to search for this thread using "Internal Server Error" with "Search for all terms" selected and found no matches even though the title exactly matches.
Just submitting this was a pain...

Yeah, it's been crap for me too.
Also, I find if I click on the user name of somebody in the recent threads list, I invariably get the message, "Sorry, that user does not exist," which is clearly untrue.
Cheers,

There seems to be a server problem; our server was rebooted about three hours ago, but it's still misbehaving.
I'm waiting further feedback from HorrorHost.

Sunday - impossible, so gave up in the end.
At work today:

Search in the current version of phpbb is a real PITA.
A - it doesn't work too well.
B - It's a resource hog because of its poor design (it indexes every word in every message) and probably isn't helping with our resource utilisation and uptime problems.

Ohhh, I hadn't realised the server errors had even taken a break !!
For the last month the site has been pretty much unusable at the times of day I try and in Perth. Maybe it has been better at other times or places but my combination of ADSL/Westnet/Perth/IE/XP has taken most of the fun out of the site.
I can easily have 5 or 6 go's and still fail to make a posting or read a post.

I've identified one script that was running many instances of itself ... and it's actually not one that I'd even been thinking about.
The RSS feed has now been disabled; hopefully this will see some improvement in our performance.

Are you sure. I have the RSS feed as a tool bar & it seems to be working - it has meaningful headers.

I have only been a member for a few weeks and pretty much ever since I was accessing the site it was a nightmare. I stuck with it for about a week and then stopped trying and went to other sites but couldn't help myself and continued trying as the site is full of great info and it is great to have a mainly Aust user base as it gives me more ideas and locations to visit. I agree now that at least today it seems fine, fingers crossed all problems are fixed.

It won't be within the next few days; sorry.
I want to assess the site's performance without this feature before I look at reinstating it.
And before I reinstate it, I'm going to need to look at the code and refine it, because it does seem to have been causing us some performance issues. As useful as I know this is, the primary function here is the website anf forums, and I need to make sure that they're running fine.
If they're not, there's nothing for the RSS feeds anyway.
In looking at the code, I will want to assess whether I can maybe place some stuff into an intermediate table and maybe run the RSS from that.
HTH.
