I'm already having this thing marked down on my wall planner!! Its starting to get exciting, very....
Can I add a request on "how to build on good rapport and comfort zone for the 'model' in front of the camera"? I find many times taking portraits outdoors with friends, they are very stiff in front of the camera when I try to get them relaxed on the poses. I guess this is somehow appropriate to what we are doing that day? Just a suggestion....

Matt, you had me a bit worried with the nuclear reactor thing - I'm already losing my hair anyway so it shouldn't be a problem.
I'm happy to learn any techniques which may improve my photography. I have an SB800 which I need to learn how to use as well and any tips on pp will be appreciated.
Sounds like a great session.
Cheers, Mick

That's the same for me too, especially flash work, so that's my vote - flash & lighting.

This sounds bloody good. I don't have an SB800 though, but it's on the list. Maybe I could sneakly buy one.....

May 26 is the date for this. It's confirmed and locked away, on the calendar, and will be in Balmain, in the same room that we use for the portraiture workshops.
Starting time will be 10:30 am, because the room is in use prior to that time.
There will need to be a small donation from participants for the use of the room ... think in terms of $15/per ...
Now I need to trawl this thread and build up a list of names ...

Names, names names ...
From an earlier post ...
Jeff
Michael_,
Kyle,
Kris,
Andre (Radar),
Wocka
Alan (Raskill)
Lynn (Nikkonfan)
Steffen
Mick (Oscar)
Zsolt (Zeddy)
Craig (Alpha_7)
Yi-P
Mark,
Bruce (Oz_Beachside)
Patrick (Reschsmooth),
Bruce will be out because of his travels.
Patrick may or may not be in, because he's pregnant.
That's 14 definite maybes ...
Now ... if some of you want to do one of the portraiture workshops instead of this ... that's fine.
And there's no issues with any of you doing both, or all three ... provided we can fit you in, and that we don't end up excluding others who haven't had an opportunity to do these as yet.
Matt, are you comfy with this many people?

I guess 14 is a big class....but what the hell....plan, prepare and overcome all difficulties. A white board, markers and laptop with projector will be required. Is that doable?
Group input should see some good ideas floated. A model with a few changes of clothing also required. Perhaps a student or beginning model who needs a free portfolio?

Something may be doable, if we can arrange this the way we did with Matt for the PS workshop.
Obviously, we need to be mindful of Matt's time and availability.

Yes. Approaching people and asking them if you can photograph them is a major hurdle for some....in fact, most photographers. We can look at some ice melters for that.

ok gary/matt are we in need of models? i have two actor friends who may be interested (males) infact they just made a movie and are getting some clothing made up and asked me to take shots of them, i thought why not kill two birds, if we need some models and in return they get some of the shots.
whats everyone think? they wanted to use the shots to produce posters, if people dont want to do that thats cool i can just provide mine, attached is also a shot of the young lady who may be interested.
http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/7936/olgaon7.jpg
and the two guys, Nick has been on Home and Away (he is my best mates little brother) and Igor is a successful stunt man who just produced/stared in his own movie with nick.

Michael,
I already have one lady lined up for Matt's session. Her name is Vicky, and she's a singer friend of mine. I know lots of singers.
I'll be posting some shots of her as soon as I can get around to doing some PP.
I also have one lady - Inica - lined up for the first portrait workshop, and I'm hoping to have another one shortly.
My concern with using actors and/or models is that they're not the type of subject we're going to be typically encountering, and - particularly for the portraiture workshop - I think that they might actually be counter productive, given the goal is that we're aiming to learn how to shoot people of the common garden variety.

Gary, is there room for one more? I'll be coming home thru Sydney on Thursday 24th May, so it could be tempting to stay over for Saturday if I can persuade my boss I need to work in Sydney on the Friday.
Just an idea at this stage. If it's full, no problems.
Cheers

Hi Gary, I just spoke to my boss and he won't be in Sydney on the Friday, so I can't really justify staying over for the course on the Saturday. So I'll have to pull out. I apologise for the inconvenience.

I have another Nikon body and plenty of lenses, the learning experience is about lighting and framing.. I'd say both brands do most of that the same..

OK, Y'all ... pay attention.
This workshop is being held on Saturday next, starting at 10:30 am, at 2 Booth St in Balmain. It's just across the road from the Balmain Hospital, and it's not the park.
We have a room at the back of the centre; it's a sort of holistic healing community centre. From the corner, just go down the hill a few meters, ad you'll see a pathway heading towards the back of the centre.
I'll be there around that time as well, to help get things started, and to collect your donation for the use of the room. Please keep the room tidy so that we can continue to use this facility.
Your model for the day is Vicky Nik.
Any questions? Please ask in this thread.
Matt, is there anything you'll be needing me to bring on the day?

Public transport (bus) is detailed in this thread.
Or catch the ferry from Circular Quay and then the bus up the hill to the main shopping centre.

Craig,
We have the room for the whole day; my expectation is that the day will finish around four, but as always, people are free to leave as they need to.
Michael,
Neither Kris nor Kyle have indicated to me any inability to attend.
if everyone on the list could now reconfirm their intent, that would be greatly appreciated.
