Macro Lenses

Ok so im slowly getting there with my lens choices. Ive decided the next lens to buy will be a macro lens, however working out which one is a PITA. It needs to be at least 100mm, preferably larger. I kinda like the the zoom ability, but not necessary really.

Is there A VR macro lens coming out? That would be pretty handy.

Is the Sigma 70-300 tele with macro ability worth entertaining as a macro lens? I read the post about its DOF, but im not sure how it really comapres...

What do you mean by 100% compatible .

It works excellently on my D70, in AF and or Manual mode .

All Sigma lenses with Nikon mount should work with all Nikon SLR or DSLR, if you have the Sigma but with Canon mount than they won't work with Nikon mount.

Just by the by, the DOF will be the same for any lens at the same aperture/focal length settings.

I have recently purchased a pre loved Tamron 180mm SP DI after reading some good reviews of the lens.

I really appreciate the extra working distance the 180 provides over the 90mm Tamron which I also have used and also the sharpness of the lens.

I have the 70-300mm Tamron lens, I guess they're about the same lens and I've got some pretty good results from it.

I think my last reply answers your question. If you are serious about macro you have to get a prime macro lens.

Nikon have prime macros as well

I use Sigma 105, Fozzie uses 150mm Sigma, Flyer uses 105 Sigma etc
