First Image PostThis is my first D70 image post here.
I was experimenting with DOF in my garden one wet day. As you can see, I didn't nail the DOF here, too shallow. Does anyone find the pink flower in the background too distracting? or is it just me? Exposure Time = 1/8000" F Number = F4.5 Exposure Program = Manual ISO = 200 Metering Mode = Spot Flash = Off Focal Length = 70mm Cheers - beej
Beej - yes I do find the flower behind distracting only because it is close visual proximity to the front flower.
I would have used a slower speed and perhaps around f/8. It is always a good idea when experimenting to do a series of shots to give you a better idea of what is possible with different apertures Chris

Yep - distracting. Solution is easy though, just crop it out! Peter

Actually I think the pink flower gives the photo a bit of depth, but I would have like to see it a little more out out of focus so if anything I would have tried to reduce the DOF.

Beej,
Congratulations on losing your virginity! At posting an image, that is. As matt says, make the flower larger. I would use a different angle of view - more directly from above, which would also have helped flatten the range of the DoF that you needed. g.

Thanks for all your posts.
I originally used that angle of view and with the pink flower behind for the purpose of experimenting with DOF, but I think I pushed it a bit. I'll be getting back out there soon so I can wear out that that shutter button
