Room lighting

Postby Pehpsi on Tue Jun 12, 2007 12:48 am

Hey.

Wondering what kind of lighting is good for staring at a computer heaps while working on images?

Today i bought some fancy looking globes (2 x 75w) for my room that makes everything look white instead of yellow/orange like regular globes, and i've got a bit of a headache. Are there any rules on this stuff?

It could have been the beers that caused the headache? :)

Staring at a screen for too long isn't a fantastic idea. I just usually use my room light or turn the lights off.

Natural light is best. After sunset this could be a problem. Avoid using flouros though as the flicker of the screen and the flicker of the flouros (60Hz) can cause headaches in some people.

Also take a break every hour and make sure you stare into a distance, even if it's from the other side of a room. This will ease the muscles in your eyes.

OH&S has it's place in the home as well as the work-place.

Thanks mate. I'm not sure if i like the white light, or if i should go back to the yellow type. I'm second guessing myself quite a bit with the new ones though when doing PP.

If only my light switch had a white balance dial!

Buy a small kino flo fluro fitting, and run a warm tube and a cool tube... you can select to use one, the other or both :D

Ok overkill :P

Seriously, if you can learn to adapt to the daylight globes, it's better.

also, buy a spyder2express, theyre about $100 odd, and it really helps with colours on your monitor :)
