Taking pictures in wet weather

Hi everyone, my name is james and i was just wondering if you could give me some help in regards to talking photos in wet weather. I want to take pictures when it is raining outdoors but i do not want my camera (30d) to get wet. I am finding it hard as it is sometimes hard to manage the umbrella and the camera at the same time.
Any suggestions?...

Hi James, and welcome aboard. Theres always room for one more, even if you are carrying a Canon....

Mate, the easiest, least expensive way, to protect your camera from the elements is some gaffer tape and plastic shopping bags. This might sound a bit silly, but I have seen plenty of pro's reach for the garbage bags and tape to cover 400mm, 500, and 600mm lenses at sporting events. The tape goes on the lens hood, and the bag is loose enough to work the lens.

If this budget option is not an option, there is plenty of commercial stuff available. I use Kata weather proof covers for my bodies and lenses, it cost about $40 US and works in even the heaviest rain.

As far as keeping your gear dry in the rain, bribe a friend/partner to come along as your 'assistant' so he/she can hold your umbrella

The cheapiest and easiest alternative to expensive wet weather gear I reckon!

Yep. Good old plastic bags. Poke the lens through one end and secure with a rubber band. Leave the other end open and work with hands in the bag.

Get a wife that trapses around the countryside with you and get her to hold the umbrella and the backpack (as well as boiling the billy, cooking the beans, putting another log on the fire etc...)

Go stay at a hotel and steal one of the plastic showercaps - works a treat !
