While i was in the States Nikon ran an ad called about a town Georgetown, SC and they gave the town 200 Nikon D40 and Kit Lens!

(I'd be interested in getting feedback on whether the pronounciation "n-EYE-kon" is likely to catch on...)

Americans have always pronounced it that way - at least in my experience.

Fair enough. There's that, and "NEE-san" for 'Nissan', too.

Back on topic, though, it's a really good campaign. I know from taking my DSLR to work functions that many people have a lot of initial trepidation in using one because it's big and heavy and requires more manual input (especially if I've got the manual prime mounted on it). However, after a quick play most people are up and taking decent photos quite quickly.

They do, that is how they say it.
they also have trouble pronouncing a lot of international car manufactures.
Nissan springs to mind saying Nee-Saan!

They do have some good beachscape to work with at that town. Would be interesting if Nikon could do the same to an Aussie rural town. Give us city folk an idea of rural life.
