Trekabout Photography Workshops - first one over!

Well, our inaugural Trekabout Photography Workshop at O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat in Lamington National Park is over and it really went down well, from all accounts. Feedback was great, participants had a ball and we had the best imaginable weather.

We started out at the bird feeding area where we had King Parrots, Crimson Rosellas, Regent and Satin Bowerbirds, Eastern Spinebills, Red-browed Finches and Lewin's Honey-eaters, all with a few metres of us. Absolutely amazing how many species at once.

We then headed through the rainforest where we did a some tuition and ended up being followed by a tame Eastern Yellow Robin, landing at eye level. Shots galore all around!

After lunch it was down to the Botanical Gardens for some macro photography which included various flowers, lichens etc and then back for some photo reviews and Photoshop tuition.

To finish off, we were fortunate to be able to head by 4WD to private land not available to the general public for some sunset photography overlooking the valley and mountains.

We couldn't have asked for a better beginning to our workshop venture and there will be some photos from the day posted soon.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank my good mate and "business partner", Mark Rayner for all his hard work, long hours and sheer enthusiasm he has put in over the last 4 months. When I first offered Mark the opportunity to join me in this venture as a business partner, he embraced the idea with gusto and his enthusiasm was evident today during our tuition and presentations. Thanks a million, Mark

Now, time to start planning for next Saturday's "Beach to Mountains" workshop on the Sunshine Coast.....

Congratulations on this. I know a lot of work goes into setting these things up, and the rewards are not of the financial variety; it's seeing the pleasure in the participants as they see and learn things that are new to them.

Many thanks indeed for you positive and encouraging comments. If we worked out the hours and money we have spent so far on this venture, I can assure you we have a while to go before we "make money". Mark and I both enjoyed the day, even though we were up at 4-4.30am and arrived back to our respective homes (and wives!) after 8.30pm. It gives us a buzz when participants learn things and enjoy doing so in the process and we both feel a sense of satisfaction when this happens.

My philosophy in life is to be passionate about things, share them with others and if you can make a reasonable living in the process, all the merrier. Sometimes it takes a while to get the dollars trickling in but if that's your only aim, you may as well give up.
