How White Balance works on the D70Andrew Jones has written an excellent tutorial on how white balance works on the D70.
You will find this here. Thank you Andrew for this excellent work. g.

Jonesy, great article. Additionally, Ron Reznick's Digital Acquisition ebook looked at WB in a different perspective, which was an eye opener when I first read of it (and it's great when I read something that challenges my conventional thoughts):
"The correct white balance is where you achieve maximum amplitude with optimum symmetry." It's in the section going over setting WB when no neutral object is present in the captured scene (pg 41 in 2nd Ed). The amplitude and symmetry referring to the spike in the mid-shadows of the historgram. To me, this emphasises the importance of knowing and understanding histograms. Not only do they indicate scene exposure and whether you have optimum scene contrast, it also gives insight into your white balance! (if you know what to look for - hence this ebook being a wealth of knowledge wonderfully written and well worth getting for serious imaging)
Onyx,
Ron's eBook is my Bible and it is the main source where I can find my daily foods to feed my photography hobby. Birddog114

has anyone performed this test on a D70s?
Wondering if the flash versus cloudy kelvin is still backwards in the current D70s (firmware A-1.00, B-1.00). thanks Oz
WB D70S Flash and CloudHi,
I have just reperfomed this test with my D70s, on a Lastolite Grey Card, blue skies, direct midday sun, and if I have got this right, appears the FLASH and CLOUDY are still miss-matched. Do others agree? thanks Oz
Re: How White Balance works on the D70Does anyone know if a firmware fix has ever been released for this?
If not, well it's still a fairly minor issue to deal with.
