Challenge #16 - Song Title.

Postby gstark on Tue Jun 19, 2007 3:56 pm

This is the challenge for the AW.

Your image's title must be a song title, and the image should express the song title.

The usual rules apply, and the challenge is open for images shot with effect from the time of posting of this message. The challenge will close on July 22, to permit time for voting.

We'll have prizes, which will be awarded at the AW dinner on August 4.

Glen has donated a Wolf Eyes Sniper rechargeable 170 lumen LED torch with 4 levels including strobe, valued at $165 and Poon has also offered some support; I need to finalise how that will manifest itself.

So ... whatcha waiting for? Get your cameras singing!

Hmmmm, I wonder how many variations of a certain Duran Duran song there will be, with, arguably, one of the best (post 11pm screened) music videos of the 1980s!

Good choice for a Challenge, Gary.

Patrick,

We've been some way down that path in discussing the possibilities that this them opens up. Please, therefore, try to keep this basically decent.

Gary, should the image title also include the name of the artist? For example, one song title that comes to mind (and yes, it's decent) is a single word which almost no-one would recognise as a song title.

Patrick, so we could nominate which version? Like "What about me", either original Moving Pictures or Idol popstar version. Not a bad idea if Scott has the gallery set up the same to maybe to include details if obscure under the comments section.

Does it have to be a song as such? I'm thinking of an instrumental which would make a great photograph.

Nice one! That's pretty much my influence for C15.

Do classical pieces count (ie. what if the title was allegro, etc)? Or would it be based on what the symphony/composition was titled? No I'm not trying to be a smartarse, but wanted to clarify.

The idea of an Idol popstar version didn't even come close to crossing my mind :x

Seriously, the idea behind my comment was that there would at least be an additional reference to the song title so it could be confirmed that it was a song?

I was thinking of Madonna's "Like a Virgin" but where do I find one?

Wouldn't it be great if we could download the song with the photo and it would play in the background when you click into the photo.

I'd make a suggestion, but I believe that the site's been pulled, following some recent court cases and arrests. :)

Seriously ...

There are probably IP rights issues why we cannot do that, but it's a good idea.

I just thought of a question.
Is this a major or a minor challenge?
The reason I ask is that the rules specify a major challenge as one with a double entry. This one is a single entry challenge but it's the AW challenge.
So is this a single entry major?

Wow - I'm totally shocked that there were only 12 entries. I would have thought such an open theme would have resulted in more people being involved. Curious.

Some top shots there though. Good luck to all who had a crack!

For me I was tired and exhausted from my trip, I thought perhaps I could find a shot from oversea and enter it, but all my ideas where lame, and if it was an oversea shot it would kind of be easy to guess it was mine. In the end I wrongly assumed there would be 40-50 entries and I'd wouldn't stand a chance with a lame, cheesy entry. Pretty lazy of me, but since landing I've been so busy it felt more like a chore then a challenge to enter.

We had planned to take the shot on Saturday, and then on Sunday, but time got away from me - I only came up with the idea mid week. My first idea would have involved either stabbing Alicia or I with a hyperdermic needle!

Hi Steve,

Neither, although there may be some global PS applied, which is permitted, of course.

That image caught my attention too, and hence I've already made some enquiries and satisfied myself to its eligibility. No doubt the photographer will tell all at an appropriate time.

Missed out on this one as well. My weekend went to hell, and by 3pm sunday when I had time to gather it all together I just couldn't face it, particularly as I have no internet at home now and would have had to drive to work to submit. As it turns out I think I could have snuck it in Monday morning, but you get that!!
