i'm sure its a temporary issue that will be taken care of by canon relatively quickly. i am pretty sure the d2x had a similar issue at it's release? just slack QC really...

it's hillarious, they accused one pro who has two bodies (and he wants to get rid of them, because of this particular issue) of being a flamer... and get this, not a nikon fan boy flaming the mkIII, but a 5D fanboy flaming the mk III

those dpreview canon heads are caaaaraaaaazy! it was quite the laugh!

edit: i might add that the issue that a lot of canon-ites are citing as the major shortcoming with the mk III is the lcd screen resolution. it was mentioned somewhere else on here that although it is .5" bigger than a d200 screen, it has the same resolution. i suspect that canon will revise this, but it does seem odd that this wasnt picked up pre production?

it is interesting however i did read the IIn had issues when it was first released which were then fixed by a firmware update, but then you go to other forums and people have no issues or speak with people directly and they have no issues, or go to naturescapes and some people have issues, i will make up my own mind when i get mine

someone here or somewhere else spoke of similar initial issues with very early D2X's. I do not know how widespread, or if in fact it was true.

nevertheless, i doubt this will be an issue that mkIII users will have to live wtih, it will be fixed sooner rather than later...

You know what the Canon rep in Sydney said when I mentioned it to her? Oh, they'll probably fix that with firmware! I doubt they'd release the camera without the screen running at it's highest resolution!

she must either be a bit of a dill, or reading from a script.

ie. "if someone brings up a complaint about mkIII, say that it will be fixed with firmware"

it would be quite a laugh if you had mentioned you didnt like the aesthetics of the camera and she said they'd fix that in firmware!

I actually had a good Canon bash while she was here at the studio, she took it well! I know it's a personal opinion but the MkIII feels more like a house brick than a camera, not in weight, just it's square uncomfortable shape in your hands.

It did have a lot of funky features but I'm so over features! When I bought my D200 I was blown away by all the "stuff" it could do, since then I have only ever adjust WB, Shutter Speed, Aperture, ISO and a few other bog standard controls that even the D70 had!

The Live Preview is pretty cool and would be handy with product photography - IF the bloody LCD was clearer!

I was just round at a friends place and she was saying that all things considered she is not that impressed with her markIII
she is having focus problems when running bursts
she showed me some of the surf shots she got when we were up at Avoca at the weekend and lots were out of focus compared with the focus I was getting with my D200
we were standing next to each other, both shooting 70-200 IS/VR lens at 200mm (I was hand held, hers on a monopod) and once I got focus I held it for the whole burst while her shots were all over the place
her exposure was also changing up and down a lot more than you would expect when shooting at 10fps (the scene doesn't change that much between frames)
I said sell it, some will pay way too much for it as you can't get them...
she will wait for the firmware upgrade so don't ask for her phone number

by the way 10fps sounds magic

no doubt product photog's will shoot with it tethered anyhoo. I suspect it is more aimed at sports photog's who will remotely trigger it from the other side of the field, while still getting a live preview on their laptop. (wifi with live preview anyone... yum!)

Pity is has teething issues, then the d200 also had banding problems.

Maybe by the time its all sorted Ill be able to afford one

there is a steep learning curve with this camera, alot of people are trying to emmulate settings from 1DMarkIIns and 1dMarkIIs on the M3 and its not working and then blame it on the AF system, i have seen countless examples of both right and wrong and in all honesty i still put it down to Operator Error, having said that though i am sure if there 'is' a problem it will be fixed, having said that though for someone to come away from using the m3 and to say they are not impressed, i cant imagine what they were expecting.

Have you seen the LCD Michael? Absolutely useless..you may as well draw a picture with crayons on the back - even that'd be clearer

Oooh, just thought of another thing the Canon rep said - when I said to her "yes, but image quality isn't the be all and end all" she said "yes....yes it is.." and then couldn't comprehend my explanation of why it's not. Yet she then explained how the 1D Mk III is better than the Phase One P25 back (that we use at work) because you're more inclined to "get the shot"!!! What gives?!

Sorry Canon peeps - I honestly think Canon's produce more malleable images but just find the user-friendliness and straight-forward interface of Nikon keep me coming back! Just like Apple..I know I could buy a much more powerful PC but I'd spend so much bloody time fixing the dang thing rather than using it!

i have, i didnt get much of a play with it but didnt notice what you have mentioned, but i am not buying it for the LCD screen, i chimp, yes but its not the end of the world, i agree nikons do feel better, the d2x feels amazing in your hands but i am used to canon and its never bothered me, i would say the same applies for many many users, as for the sales rep, well what more can be said, but how often do you find reps who know everything? hell when i bought my VW GTI last year the sales rep knew very little and had to ask her boss the questions to find the answers, its not the end of the world for me.

Sorry if my posts sound like Canon bashing (they're only partly intended to!!) but on the flipside, I've never seen a Nikon rep! I'd rather have a crap rep than no rep!
