USS Kitty HawkHi All,
I've seen in the news the last couple of days that the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk will be in town tomorrow/ thursday for a week. Im guessing it will be moored at Garden Island, where are the best places to get shots from of the carrier and aircraft on deck - what length lens as well? Cheers, Chris
You can get a good view around Mrs Macquarie Chair which has a little hill coming around.
I'm not sure about the security there, but lugging a big lens taking photograph of a military ship is not such idea. But either way I might bring a 300mm prime with me... I'd say 200-300mm if you want the planes, and around 35-50mm for the ship itself. Last time, the QM2 I had to use a 12mm lens to fit her in
Probably from the flight-deck If they are having an open-day then maybe you could get onboard. There is nothing to stop you taking photos from Lady McQ's chair area. If anyone was concerned about people photographing the ship then it wouldn't be coming to Sydney harbour. But it's a big ship so make sure you have a wide-angle lens too, even from Lady McQ's chair vantage point. Steve.

Well thats what I'm hoping for, a open day. But beggars cant be choosers Should 18mm be wide enough do you think?
Ferry ride to Garden Island perhaps?
Maybe take the Pasha Bulker tour. g.

Everyone is entitled to take pics from a public place...big lens or short lens. What they don't want you to see will be covered with canvas or locked in a hanger. Security is their problem....not ours. They might even have an open day and it's not likely they will ban cameras if they do. Regards

another good storm and it could be coming to a beach close to you

www.colberne.com.au I purchased a Teddy Bear this morning for the sum of $10. I named him Mohammed. This afternoon I sold him on E-Bay for $30. My question is, "Have I made a prophet?"
Current news is that 'At this stage' no decision has been made to have an open-day on any of the US vessels visiting.
Also as a side note, USS Kitty Hawk is 46 years old and served in the Vietnam war. Steve.
