lenses for wedding

would like to know what lenses wedding photographer use on a 30D

My choices would be:
24-70
10-22
50 1.4 or 1.2
70-200 2.8is
85 1.8 or 1.2

Maybe 3 from that list would be adequate

I'm doing one with a mk2n + 24-70 + 70-200 2.8 and a 50 1.4

I use mainly a 10.5, 17-55, 70-200, and sometimes an 85mm 1.8.

70% shots are taken with the 17-55, 20% with the 70-200 and 10% the rest when I have time to switch lenses.

The last wedding I was at, the photographer used 2 lenses - the 70-200
(the really expensive white bodied lens), and a 24-70 f2.8L ... really expensive setup, but heaps of range, and minimal lens changing.

I'd hate to miss a good candid moment, or making the bridal party wait around for ages while I constantly change lenses.

It all depends on your style and what focal length you like. Do you prefer Zooms or Primes?

Im using 2x 30D's, 17-55 + 70-200. - getting some lovely images out of them.

Im saving for a 5D, then ill go with primes (85/1.8, 50/1.2...)

24-70+70-200 is good for FF bodies if you arent a prime fan.

A good friend of mine (Richard Muldoon from http://www.vividphotography.com.au) is an award winning wedding photographer. He swears by two lens, already mentioned in this thread, being the 24-70 F2.8 and the 70-200 F2.8 IS. Rich says he rarely uses flash indoors as these lenses are so good in low light.

Personally I have the 70-200 lens but not the 24-70 (yet!), but then again, I don't do many weddings.

I had the 24-105 f4 and a 70-200 f2.8 IS and dumped the 24-105 for a 24-70 f2.8. Haven't shot a wedding with the 24-70 yet but from other events, it's a sweet sweet lens in low light.

Nothing wrong with primes too btw. Another lens to consider is the 135 f2 or if you can really stretch the budget, 85 f1.2.

I think the foot-zoom ability of the primes might make you miss some of the spontaneous shots.

Those 24-70s and 70-200s are spot on and amazing.

just wondering if anyone would know if its ok to use a 50mm 1.8 for a wedding, also would i need to use a flashgun, any help would be appreciated.

its certainly ok!
I use my $100 50/1.8 and if you get the focus right it creates some lovely DOF. Some of my favourite bride shots have been taken with it.

At the end of the day it depends on your style !
