Perth shop with D200 and 18-200 wanted...

Postby tasadam on Mon Jul 09, 2007 10:28 am

Hi there

A friend is in Perth WA and wants to purchase a D200 and the 18-200 VR lens. Can anyone recommend a shop he can go to that is likely to
(a) have stock
(b) not get ripped off
(c) sell duty free?

Thanks and regards.

Agreed, except he's not in Perth, and can not guarantee delivery this week, my friend flies out Sunday.
Thanks, yes Poon is good but my friend is in W.A and wants to buy this week.
I sent a link to Camera House for my friend to investigate but unsure about stock etc, so thought I would ask in the hope that a WA local may see this post.
Cheers!

camera house are not cheap. not even close to.

and
http://www.praimaging.com.au

would be two alternatives if you really need to buy from a retail shop.
worst case scenario is get a quote from one or all of those three and then go screw harvey norman down on price.

I purchased a Teddy Bear this morning for the sum of $10. I named him Mohammed. This afternoon I sold him on E-Bay for $30. My question is, "Have I made a prophet?"

Qualitycamera.com.au gets a lot of positive feedback but is a Canon place. If it is not reasonably priced in Perth I would suggest DD photographics or ECS in Sydney. He has left it a little late for a real bargain due to delivery time to Perth.

I agree with ECS and have already mentioned them. Even overnight to Perth is possible and that is my recommendation.
It is easier to do things in person sometimes so he may prefer one of the Perth retailers.

I've recommended a couple of 8Gb cards and 2 spare batteries as well, have I forgotten anything?

I know - a card reader so he can back his photos up to the laptop without using camera battery power. Anything else?
I've referred him to this link so he can keep an eye on suggestions.

Thanks for the info, very much appreciated!

Don't forget that (your point c) there is no duty on cameras .....

And your friend, if he or she is travelling OS, may be able to claim back the GST upon their departure.

In Perth - Not a whole lot of a chance. Where is your friend going? Get Poon to send it to the destination and they can pick it up there.

I live in Perth and I use http://www.d-d-photographics.com.au

I phone with the price I want and he usually betters that price (he has even beat Poon on a couple of occasions). I then pay for overnight delivery.

Highly recommended.

Thanks for all the responses. With the assistance of this thread, my friend managed to buy a D200 in Perth, with the 18-200 VR lens. Apart from paying too much for the 8Gb cards, he is happy as!!
He's back from Namabia and I'm looking forward to seeing his photos!

Namabia? Straight flight or via Swingapura? If the latter, a reasonable deal could - have been done even in Changi Aeroport. Poon probably has some contacts somewhere.
