Picture of the Week - 17 July

Each week, one of the moderators or administrators selects an image that, for whatever reason, catches their eye. Please feel free to add your comments here. Vigorous discussion of the images and techniques is welcome and encouraged. Criticism of any mod for their choice is not. Please note that this is "Picture of the Week"; do not confuse that with "best picture of the week", which is a concept of which we have no understanding.

Is it a bit confusing that we pick a picture of the week out of a section where we are asking for critique, not show casting our images? If the mods dont see anything that grabs them that is their choice - we know the rules but alot of members have stopped posting images because they are happy with their images and do not want to be seen as using this section as a gallery... just an observation..

Hi Big V, just for clarity, the images can come from anywhere. You are correct the mostly come from the review and critique section, as that section has far and away the most images so naturally will produce most PotW, but images have been chosen from other sections.

Better late than never...

Greg - Bravo. I commend your stand. If you felt the choice this week was mediocre then so be it.

There we go again, nice way to "put everyone down" who sent images in last week, did or do you happen to post here, or just look from afar and call everyones work (in Gregs eyes although he didnt use that word) mediocre?

Dan

That sentence doesn't even make sense, but it seems very much like flaming to me.

I think we already know your feelings on this topic.

Dan who gives a Fuck! I Like what you shoot!
Ive never pulled a POTW and I dont care the outcome. Ive caused heaps of shit in my early days and now, seriously, I dont care . I roll along and I post, I get honest critisism and I move on. This is a fun forum for us Photogs, and a lot more along the way.
Constructive criitique is a great way to improve your own personal ideas about your photographic skills , your eternity or job description and your personal approach to your demeanour.

Whoa, settle down there Creative!

I've posted plenty here. (You might check the post count before making such a comment).

The word was mine, not Greg's, and I meant no disrespect to anyone who posted pics during the week. Those here that know me also know I don't take cheap shots. You don't know me but you're entitled to your opinion. Perhaps I could have been more careful in my choice of words but my meaning was to reflect that nothing stood out for Greg, as I believe he intimated from the outset. I'm entitled to interpret his words in my own way, as you have done with mine.

I fail to see why this perfectly legitimate action taken by Greg has been so aggressively attacked. Surely the are more important issues to get upset about.

Sure glad I don't have the task of selecting POTW but would like to express my appreciation to those who do :) Personally I can't wait for next week to roll on.

Well, well, well. From a very low key inability to find inspiration, which probably said
more about my condition early in the week than anything else, we have had a spirited
discussion about PotW - ranging from the thoughtful to the hysterical.

This is the second most viewed and posted PotW thread since inception, the first being
Gary's 9 August 2005 selection of a road sign which had been photoshopped
to show info about our first Anniversary weekend. There was some excitement
and immoderate commentary about that too.

But all in all, I think it is great that we all care about PotW. It is a great tradition here,
and I thoroughly enjoy my opportunity to make the selection. I am sure the other mods
feel similarly.

I look forward to the PotW for 23 July, and all weeks beyond.

And with that, I don't think there is any real need to flog this deceased steed any further.
Let's go out and take some photos.

Thread, mercifully, locked.
