Christmas came early this year

Postby smac on Sat Jun 16, 2007 4:19 pm

As some of you may know, I sold most of my Nikon gear recently and subsequently decided to go to the "Dark Side". I was planning on flying to Hong Kong to pick up new gear but decided to buy from B&H as I have had good service from them in the past.

I ordered on Monday last week and received on Friday (5 days from New York....not too shabby).

I haven't even opened all of the boxes, but here is a sneak preview for the Canon lovers.......

I also bought RRS L-Plates for the Canon 5D and the BG-E4 as well as a Gitzo 1325 Tripod.

Just need to find some time to try out the gear now......

You must have a wife that loves you lots!

Nice collection there! Not being clever, but why only one body?

I bought the 5D as I figure it is going to take at least 6 months to get a 1D MKIII with a waiting list of over 500 in Australia alone. Plus it seems that they might have some focus issues to fix.

I'll wait until they have fixed all the bugs!

Wish they had delivered all that lot to me....

You will have to update your avatar away from the Nikon too.

Ahha! I thought there would be a reason. Great set, can't wait to see some images from the 5d and the 300.

Hmmm, would that be the part about me having no talent? Or the part about me being a collector of photographer equipment....? Probably both :D :D

Hi Stuart,

So ... you bought a new Mac????

With all of the FF gear you may as well buy a film body as well.

Congrats, and well done. Let's now see some images.

Hi Gary,

Only you would see my Mac through the clutter of Canon lenses. Yes, I gave my 20" IMac to the kids and bought a 24"............No need to buy a 2nd monitor with that much screen real estate.

oh oh oh oh my goodness :|!

Canon is the white/light side, Nikon the dark :P
Welcome to Canon-land :D horhor.

You've got a complete setup there, with everything most people dream about owning!
May I ask.... how much for postage alone? I guess GST and customs duty also adds on, and you save... a lot over local prices? :D

edit:
I think your white balance is a little off.

Hi Adam,

I used Fedex International Express (3 day service form the USA). The consignment was over 20kg and the freight cost was over $700. As expected I got hit by GST but there is no duty on photographic equipment.

$700? crap!
what do you reckon you saved total with all that?

Where did you buy it all from?

... that should last you... at least a week! :D
now if you just insure your equipment and leave it in public for me to pick it up...

Wow nice gear!

I thought B&H didn't allow international orders over $1000. Did they change this policy, did such a policy exist or did I dream/imagine this up?

If they have the money in their hands it would not make a difference if it was $1,000 or 1 million
