AF isn't bang on...

Postby Kris on Mon Aug 06, 2007 9:19 pm

Just testing my lens wide open to check them out. Here are some 100% crops, no USM of the 85L.

The 85L looksoff. When I manual focus the lens on a tripod, it seems spot on but when I use AF on the same part, it appears off

I was 1meter away. I just did another test so I'm about 1.2meters away and MF seems more accurate.

I have focused on the word PATTERN

Thoughts?

Kris - I may be wrong but it appears as if you have not photographed this straight on - there seems to be an angle and this would account for the OF content.

Both were shot the same though. Tripod, timer...?

Firstly, shoot the page parallel to the lens. When focusing with AF make sure that you are using the centre crosshair focusing point on the word ”pattern”. If the page is shot correctly the words should all be in focus and not just the centre portion. Then shoot with manual focus.

Am using center AF, never use anything else. Ill try again in better light and with it parellel. Didnt think that made a difference?

Thanks chris!
