One lens onlyLets say your ordering a camera, and you could only have one lens attached to it.
What would you choose?

18-300 1.4 VR AFS ED IF (may as well throw in PC).
OP didn't specify that the lens had to exist and be practical?? ![]() ![]() Regards, Patrick
Two or three lights, any lens on a light-tight box are sufficient for the realisation of the most convincing image. Man Ray 1935. Our mug is smug
I'd play it safe and go 18-200, especially if I was buying for a General or Generic purpose. Gotta have that focal length spread.

After the weekend that would be my second choice. Much faster and sharper then the 18-200, shame it isn't a 20-80 2.8
Glen, met a guy yesterday @ the motocross shooting with a d2x and a 200F2, what a little beast this thing is!!
![]() My one lens i'd want is the 300 2.8is.... and what a lens ![]()
Only one lens allowed?
Without question, 18-200VR. Pretty decent quality, and means I am covered for just about any range.
17-35
and i'd buy andother camera so i can attach the 85 f1.4 Wendell Levi Teodoro

24-70 2.8 right now
if i had the $$, it'd be the 85 1.2 Hassy, Leica, Nikon, iPhone
Come follow the rabbit hole...
If I really seriously was only allowed one lens I'd go for a compact camera and get all the benefits that come from that approach. Something like an S5IS would suit me just fine.
A big part of the point of carrying the DSLR to me is that I can have more than one lens. So instead of having to get a custom made 16-200/1.4 IS lens to cover the range I have now plus pay someone to carry it, I can just go with a smaller, cheaper collection of lenses - from the 50/1.4 to the 16-35/2.8 and 70-200/2.8. http://www.moz.net.nz
have bicycle, will go to Critical Mass
mine would have to be the DA 12-24/4.
its a fantastic landscape lens and accounts for 99% of my landscape shots as well as a fair smattering of other types of shots as well. Shane
