Sunday. A mate is in HK, so i'll get him to get me a stack of glass. 50mm 1.2, 85mm 1.2, and 24mm 1.4. I'll buy the bodies here.

Actually i've been entertaining the idea of getting a 1D mark III. ISO6400 and 14bit RAW files have really got me thinking......

Actually i've been entertaining the idea of getting a 1D mark III. ISO6400 and 14bit RAW files have really got me thinking......

yeah but 2 mark3's? ouch...

The 5D is no slouch in high iso

I think for wedding photographery, one 5D should be atleast in the bag

At the end of the day it's personal choice I guess, but it eternally puzzles me why many people would switch from any camera system they have a fair investment in (Canon or Nikon etc etc) when the cost to switch must be high (eg there'd be a loss on the original purchase price of the lens and other gear). In some specific circumstances I get it (eg two business partners having the same interchangeable gear or a low light band photographer moving to Canon), but in many cases I wonder if it's a bit of the grass is greener syndrome.

The best working fashion/portrait guys i've seen use MF. It may not be within your budget now, but i bet in a few years, once the dollars roll in you'll be using some form of MF gear.

But in the mean time, i'm not sure. It's a question i asked myself too. I was going to buy a couple of 5Ds. For what I do, it would be more then capable. But the 1D mark III is really another generation. Little things like been able to write to 2 memory cards at the same time. It's one thing i've dreaded is a memory card failure at a wedding. 14bit files; it's something i've become use to on the fuji, but the extra bit depth gives a '3D like look' to prints.

At the end of the day, for you it's a business decision, so get the best tool to deliver the best results, and that should turn into $$$.

Note thte the MarkIII is not full frame, it has a 1.3 crop factor.

one thing that always keeps my gear spend at bay, is watching results some marvelous photographers get using a "piece of s$%t" camera, and getting a breathtaking image.

It is strange how easy it is to convince yourself that some desirable bit of equipment is the key
to realising your creative vision!! I have done it several times, resulting in some very nice
equipment, but not necessarily translating into superior photos!

However, it isn't likely to stop me from wanting more stuff!

those are beautiful photos. I suspect you would have come up with a way to do the same composition and the same effect with a D100 as well, probably would have been harder but you would have figured it out.

For you, it certainly will make things easier moving to Canon, with your partner using Canon as well. Those extra frames per second, better low light, etc will make your job easier and that equates to $$ in your pocket. From the art side of things, you will continue to perform regardless if Fuji/Nikon/Canon/etc.

In the end, if you are happy with your decision, that's all that counts

that is quite possibly one of the best wedding photos i have ever seen. all the joy and romance the event is all about and a feeling that they are the only 2 people in the world that mater. absolutely stunning.

couldn;t agree more.

i think the ease of selling equipment with ebay and the like is a big reason, its pretty easy to switch nowadays and good glass still gets good dollars. its also the fact that dslr is getting cheaper and cheaper so investing in new bodies and even lens' is becoming easier than it ever was.

think about how much more people discuss their gear now than they used to...there is an equal amount of time dedicated to technical analysis of gear, esepcially camera bodies, and how well a particualr company is doing as opposed to another that fuels so much debate. i could never understand people quoting great sales figures for company A as somehow a vindication of their decision to shoot with that companies gear. unless your a shareholder who gives a toss how much a company makes or who is a market leader ? i had a dicussion with a mate who was telling me that nikon dominated the dslr market in japan or korea or something recently...i was like "so ?"

it makes you wonder how much better people think things are on the other side, whatever that other side may be. did people 10 or 20 years ago need all the latest and greatest gear around to take great photos ? i think not. people take great pics but as soon as a new model comes out some seem to think that all of a sudden their cams are no good anymore...how does that work ? i guess pros want access to FF cams in some cases and not being a pro myself i cant speak for anyone that is a pro but i dunno mate...i think having the best new gear around and hype is as much of a factor of photography now as anything else.
