I have two, which are about 3m apart. POST UP YOURS !
This is fairly typical of how it looks, but we moved yesterday so right now just imagine a big pile of boxes with a flatpack desk leaning on the wall behind them

have bicycle, will go to Critical Mass
This is a subject that pops up from time to time and to the best of my recollection there have been two previous posts along these lines. Of course I searched for them to link here, but can't find them. Regardless there are a lot of these images already included in those posts for someone who does manage to track down the posts in question

But if a Moderator of such high standing can't find them, what hope do we mere mortals have? I like these posts - they give me a chance to show my wife that my work area isn't all that bad after all! *** When getting there is half the fun! ***
Peter,
here it is: http://www.dslrusers.net/viewtopic.php?t=26664 In the Nerd and Pedant section of course Cheers, André (EDIT: PS: I know it has been noted before but the search is useless. I search for a string I know is in there and it didn't show the post above ) Photography, as a powerful medium of expression and communications, offers an infinite variety of perception, interpretation and execution. Didn't think to look there. And for completeness the other thread is at http://www.dslrusers.com/viewtopic.php?t=19048 but many of the images have bitten the dust. Thanks André. Gee those Novocastrians are a smart lot Peter

No oops needed here IMHO. As said searching for something like this is hard and anyway our desks change over time (mine is pretty messy ATM for example) Peter

I'm not sure I can merge posts, but I've just stickied this one. And here is my current very untidy desk being supervised by my cat Monty Peter

Please note the lathe in the background Greg

Re: Show us your workdesk...That looks horribly like a Jet Mini Lathe to me.
Michael
Re: Show us your workdesk...
That's the one. Not a bad little lathe, but not a patch on the Vicmarc it copies. The big Teknatool lathe is in the lounge room. Greg

Re: Show us your workdesk...
Jeepers. So the missus has left then? Michael
Re: Show us your workdesk...Not in it's neatest state, but it is usually fairly chaotic, this is my work space at work, it stretches a little further to the left, to a dead printer, a box and 3 laptops (2 partially useless). The second whiteboard is in glare protection mode blocking the morning sun off the water outside. Far right is Dawesy chair creeping into the shot.
Re: Show us your workdesk...
Hardly The Teknatool is HER lathe Mind you, MY Kapex, router table, workbench, drill press, tool chests etc block her access to it. Maybe I should share photos of the lounge room too Greg

Re: Show us your workdesk...I detected some scepticism about the lounge room.
As I spend more time working there, I guess it's appropriate to include a shot of it too: Note the Lathe is right under the camera Lens (Yellow box is the head). Then comes the Kapex (Sliding Compound Mitre Saw), then the workbench, my "desk". Behind that are the lounge chairs, with the TV against the wall. On the other side of the room are the tool cabinets (there's another one far right), then the router table and drill press. There is a second, portable, work bench in front of them. In the far corner is the dining table, but it's buried (as usual) under work in progress. There is newspaper on the bench as I was gluing up picture frames that day. Don't forget the fairy lights on the ceiling. They are an important component of any well equipped workshop. If you are wondering where the clamps are, they are in the spare bedroom with the other permanent workbench Greg

Re: Show us your workdesk...
Ok, I'm really interested in your dust control. How are you doing that with all this dust and chip creating machinery in your office and lounge room? Michael
Re: Show us your workdesk...iluxa - I assume you read strobist from your pic of your desk.
Re: Show us your workdesk...
Fairly good really The mini lathe in the office is just stored there. On the rare occasions it is used, it is taken into the workshop (aka loungeroom) and put on the lathe/scrollsaw bench (aka dining table) All the power tools connect to Festo dust extractors when in use. I have two. I use both on the router table: One above the table and one below. the other power tools use one at a time. My partner will often use one while I am using the other. Any dust they miss is collected by a room air cleaner that can be seen suspended from the ceiling near the dividing wall in the photo. Most hand operations generate shavings rather than dust. This is simply vacuumed or swept up. The exception is hand sanding which I avoid as the power sanders all have exceptional dust removal. When I do hand sand (or use the lathe - another dust generator difficult to control), I use a dust mask & leave the room extractor on as long as possible. Anything that reaches the floor is vacuumed by one of the extractors - these are significantly better at dust removal than your average vacuum cleaner. This includes Dysons - I have spoken to the man himself about this. - They work well, but will not cope with the volumes of fine dust generated by woodwork. The machinery (another lathe and two bandsaws) sit outside on the patio. They connect to an industrial size dust extractor that sits outside with them I also avoid MDF as far as possible. That generates really fine dust which is toxic to boot. All wood dusts are class 1 carcinogens though. Hence the precautions. Greg
