Canon 40D on Amazonhttp://www.amazon.com/Canon-40D-10-1MP- ... 000V5P90K/
If the link dies I've got a .pdf of it. Some interesting stuff in there. Canon 1D III
Good find, they also have it in a kit with an EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM André Photography, as a powerful medium of expression and communications, offers an infinite variety of perception, interpretation and execution. Ansel Adams
(misc Nikon stuff)
Just when I was going to get me some new L glass......now this - so much lust so little money If the details in the leak are correct it does look like a nice upgrade - that 14bit conversion, hmmmm...
I called my local friendly camera store - was told that they had no news on the 40D - they had not seen a discontinuation or a price drop on the 30D. But, they said, if it was announced in the near future it would still take months for them to get stock, maybe as late as February 2008. Then again, so many fake sites and write-ups, hard to know what to believe these days. Gary
I'd be pretty surprised if this is fake - i saw the original amazon site when it was still up, and it was possible to pre-order the camera, and from what i've read on various forums, a few people have ordered them so...

It is on the AU site, sort of: http://www.canon.com.au/products/visual ... l_slr.html
Thanks ATJ, the specs listed on the USA site look like the Amazon specs, appreciate the link. Time to put the 350 on eBay I think.
Just looked at Amazon again - the site is back but now except with a note to say that the 40D is not currently available. Cheers Gary
Time to sell my 30D to one of the "get the old model cheap now the new one is out"... on eBay where they're still paying more than Poon sells new ones for

Thanks heaps.
Placed my order this morning for two bodies - I'll be stuffed if I am waiting 7 mths like I had to for the 20D when it first landed so I got in first... - Looking at about $1650 each if the RRP of $1999 is correct.. Now I just count the days, hours and minutes until I get the call to say "They're HERE !!!!"
Yep, im thinking of doing the same thing. Got my 30D about 1 month ago but the extra specs of the 40D is really appealing! How much do you think i could sell a 30D body for with a 3 year warranty?
If\when you come up with a price for your 30d, send me a PM - I'm in the market for a 400d or a 30d! Shorty
I'm starting to see a few 'low use' 30D's popping up in a few places for around $1300 to $1500.
Considering the 40D is going to hit the streets for the majority of people for about $1900, then this doesn't appear too bad... Just a few things to remember - shops will be starting to offload their "old stock" 30D's from now and Canon may start their $200 cashback deal again... so get in quick and take advantage before the 40D actually starts shipping.. (the 30D has been removed from the Canon website already) I'm paying just under $1600 each of 40D bodies I am getting.., compared to the $1400 I paid for a 30D about 4 mths ago (less the $200 Cashback from Canon)... so a 30D brand new at $1400 is not unreasonable in a month or so I know not everyone can get great prices like that, but as shops get desperate to move stock - the 30D's will come down very quickly Cheers Jason
Even with the recent tremors in the PP, our price, through Poon, is still under PP1450, delivered to your door.

Considering these are in stock and available through ebay already and at less than $1700 delivered for just the 40d body, I'm surprised more of a fuss hasn't been made about these cameras!!
Also a little surprised that more 400d and 30d cameras haven't started finding their way into the For Sale section.... yet Shorty
Jason, If you dont mind, where did you order from, I notice Discount Digital has them for $1739, not sure of the Poon price cos I dont qualify yet for any member discounts, Robert
And ftr, Poon has no stock as yet, nor any ETA.

40D vs 30D, is it worth the upgrade?I just read some of the specifications for the new 40D and compared them with the 30D and I feel it is not worth the upgrade. Sure it has a 10 megapixel sensor but its size is still smaller than the 30D's 8 megapixel, which leads me to believe than one would need to consider the other improvements like dust reduction or more pictures per burst (from 30 to 70 odds) to justify the expense. Am I in the right track?
Yes, Photocontinental seem to have it on stock for $1849 (EOS 40D Body only). http://www.photocontinental.com.au/40d.htm However, in due time Poons' offer maybe worth considering based on my previous experience with his excellent prices and service.
You're on the right track because you are looking at the specs and deciding what is important for you, and you know what have you to spend. That's the only way to do it.
For me it will be worthwhile. The frame rate alone justifies it and the dust is close second (I do a lot of automotive shooting in dusty conditions) and the weatherproofing third. Liveview, 3-inch screen and other factors are good too, so all up it is definitley worth it for me. I'm also looking forwards to the AF button. If you wanted advice about whether some of the features suit you then you will need to explain what sort of photography you do or intend to. The requirements of someone like me who is running around in the dirt shooting fast-moving objects are quite different to a landscape photographer, or a portratit specialist, or a pet shooter etc etc.
Their sensor cleaning has not done very well in at least one review http://www.pixinfo.com/en/articles/ccd-dust-removal/
You might want to look for more tests http://www.moz.net.nz
