Melbourne visitor

Postby Louie on Sun Aug 19, 2007 7:32 pm

Hi guys,

This little Mexican will be in Sydney soon and I was wondering if anyone is interested in catching up? I'll be there week of Sep 3 (same week as APEC - not planned!!) and will be staying with Rod (Sandyfeet) in Neutral Bay.

Any suggestions of a good place to meet would be appreciated, apparently lower end of city will be a bit difficult to get to due to certain foreign visitors ...

Looking forward to meeting some Sydney members, and seeing if the rumours are true ......

Cheers,
Elena

When are you actually ariving?

Will you be here on the Sunday as well, or do you land on the Monday?

Sydney is going to be hell to get around in that week, and the usual northern city stuff that we like to do will be within the "declared zone".

Neutral Bay will also be APECted... I'm thinking Crow's Nest or Manly might be the way to go.

Yes, APEC is definitely against me!

I'll be in Sydney from Mon 3rd until Mon 10th, most likely driving back down to sunny Melb on the 11th.
Any day is good for me, though I think Rod is working all week. When are you all leaving town??

I also saw that more areas have been APECted, they are just getting greedy now
Very difficult to organise a meeting place when the maps keep changing!!

I heard weeks ago that Bondi was being APECted, which is why I'm going to be in HK for a few daze.

But I'm sure we can do something at the pointy end of the week in question, and show our disdain for APEC in a positive manner.

I'd like to see what happens when a bunch of photogs armed with big lenses descend into the 'restricted' area.

Good luck Louie.

Steve,

I think I may have mentioned to you that the thought had crossed my mind of holding a Timesnap over this weekend. Minimum lens would be a 200mm /f4 (or something that at least looks serious).

Extra credit if you get arrested. :)

Louis,

I leave on the morning of the 5th, returning on Monday the 10th.

I think there may be some jazz that I'll be jamming at on the night of the 10th if you're for that.

I think Gary's suggestion of Crows Nest could probably be good, good restuarants & Bars, and some good photo ops

I've been arrested with expensive camera gear before, it's not fun. The plod are normally very casual with people's gear, and with the APEC windup I wouldn't be surprised to see them give airport luggage handlers a run for their money. But they're also usually reluctant to arrest people with flash cameras if those people are not being too obnoxious.

Or you could go somewhere decent

If only I still lived in Crows Nest. :(

If it was I organising this, I would recommend North Sydney Hotel (tell em Patrick sent you), and have a wander around St Leonards Park & North Sydney Oval (although would be pretty dark by then).

I was at the North Sydney Hotel. (just kidding).

The Crowie is ok, and on a Tuesday night, the little kiddies getting sh$tfaced are likely to be absent.
