Death of a legend

Colin Mcrae is dead.

His helicopter crashed near his Family home in Scotland. Also on board, his young five year old son. It isn't confirmed if more of his family was onboard due to the damage to the aircraft.

Truly, a rally legend.

I watched him a few times at the local rally events when I was younger, it was always the highlight of the day to see him tear past at an insane rate of knots!
Even though he had a tag of crashing a lot he soon became a more mature driver which was proven during his stint at Subaru.
He'll certainly be missed..

Unbelievable. He was one of my fave WRC drivers as he was such a positive character and did a lot of good work to promote the sport.

And his poor little son, that is very sad.

I read this sad news earleir this morning on a UK soccer site and it spoilt my morning. I used to watch his dad during the 80s and Colin was carrying on the dynasty.

The world is now worse off

I got to photograph Colin and car at Rally Australia in 2000, and even though he was driving a Ford, it was a very much worthwhile time. Rallying is a top sport to watch and photograph and we have lost too many great people to early in their life.
We are forever grateful to have been able to witness them and greatly appreciate what they have done.
