PotW September 24, 2007

Been a busy day for me, with lots that needed to be done, including this wonderful task. I'd actually made my choice late last week.

Then Trevor posted this image, and I changed it.

But both times, the choice was for one of Trevor's images.



This one just makes you feel good. Great colours, wonderful background ... it takes me back to being a kid, lying on my back in a park, and watching the clouds go by. It's that sort of image.

Congratulations, Trevor. You've done very well this week.

I quite often disagree with the choice of PotW,

And nobody will encourage reasonable dissent more than I. Part of the process is to make people think about their images, and disagreement with a choice is a natural part of that process.

Gary, which was the other one, BTW?

The very first of Trevor's fruit bowl shots. While others preferred some of the latter shots in that thread, the first one, for me, had the right lighting and treatment. And it was the first of them. But look at, for instance, the rendition of the fruit - the colours that Trevor was able to reproduce in that image, and the ones that followed. And, of course, the way the glass bowl was rendered.

Wow! Thanks for the nice words, Gary. There are so many terrific images on this site now that it is a real honour to have an image selected as PotW.

A few words about the "whispering grass" pic for anyone who might be interested:

I had an idea that an image with the green grass and blue sky background could work, so I went out to set it up. The first time I went out, the sky was overcast so I didn't even bother to take a shot.

The next time, I had the lovely blue sky with fluffy white clouds. To take the shot I used the Micro Nikkor 105mm because I wanted a very shallow DOF and the illusion of being right in the grass. A wide angle shot would give a totally different look and more DOF.

Anyway, a couple of exposures later I was pretty sure I had what I wanted. I have amped up the vibrance, and I used nik Color Efex Pro's Sunshine Filter to increase the contrast a bit more.

Thanks to everyone for the congrats the image has received. I have it on my screen as wallpaper, and it looks pretty good!

What's good about POTW for me is - I don't get to log in very often, and I probably miss seeing a lot of great photos - just like this one, I missed on seeing when it came out.
