Morning at Dee Why

I had to race out this morning at about 5:20 am to take some photos for work. I only had about half an hour to create the pano and play with one other photo before I had to get ready for work.

I wish I had a ND filter (even my polarising filter) with me so I could go for slower shutter speeds, however, this is the first:

Is the concrete repair at the bottom of the image distracting?



This is a 7 hand-held shot pano taken with the 20mm lens and quickly stitched using the Photomerge function in CS3. I would like more time to play with this one to bring out more colour from the clouds and perhaps lighten up the foreground a touch.

I really like the look of the first one but it looks a tad soft on my monitor - any chance of a slight sharpen?

Seeing as you asked.. yes I find the concrete repair distracting... but that should be easily fixed with the healing brush/clone tool I would think..

I also think that you did a cracking job for such a short time.. the second one is my pic ... the colours are superb!

I like the first better than the second, but I'm a sucker for those pools on the shore line, so much opportunity!

I'd like to see a tad more contrast in it, and to be honest I wouldn't have noticed the concrete repair if you hadn't mentioned it.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Sue, I may apply a grad ND filter in PP for the pano to see if I can get more detail and colour out of the foreground.

The softness in the first comes about due to the B&W conversion I used - this was totally intentional. This also explains the relatively low contrast. In fact, I would have liked to go for an even softer look but I couldn't reduce the contrast much further.

Actually, I am a little disappointed with the composition of the first as I would have preferred to be a bit more to the right, however, I don't have an underwater housing for the D200

You have done well to get the wavws looking even in the pano shots.
#3 grabs my attention more than the others though.
