First lens

Postby Schplade on Sun Sep 30, 2007 1:26 am

Hey guys, I'm purchasing a D70 body very soon so I am looking for a nice and cheap lens to practice with before I buy either a tamron 18-200mm or nikkor 18-70mm lens (can't afford either of these after buying the body).

So what I was looking at was an old Tamron 24-70mm AF f3.3/5.6 lens which should go fairly cheap on ebay (has some cosmetic damage but meh seeing as it should just be a temporary lens), but I am not sure if this will provide auto focus for my D70 body?

Otherwise what about a second hand D50 kit lens (nikkor AF-S 18-55mm f3.5/5.6) ?

Any other options would be good too, looking to spend about $50 now and in a month or two I'll upgrade to something better.

Thanks for any help guys :)

How much are you looking to spend on the body?

The kit lens (18-70) is the first obvious answer, but don't overlook the D40 kit lens (18-55) which is very inexpensive, or the 50mm f/1.8, which is a staple that you should have anyway.

The D40 lens is a newer version of the D50 one, btw.

Spending $450 on the body which is from another member here.

I think the 50mm f1.8 might be a bit expensive for what I'm looking at sadly :(

But the D40/D50 kit lens is looking alright at the moment, was only thinking the D50 one because it should be a bit cheaper second hand.

Might have to go down to cash converters and see if they have anything decent for cheap.

Welcome to the forum Schplade.

I realise you're unable to purchase from this forum due to the low number of posts you have here but, it could be somthing to think about in the future. That said, there is a guy in Sydney http://www.d-d-photographics.com.au/ that you might want to check out. I'm sure a few members here have purchased from him. He has the 50mm f/1.8 for $165 which is brand new and it's a simular price to here anyway :)

Cheers,
Bill
