Sunset at the marinaPhoto taken at Russell in NZ's North Island. Fill flash from SB800, natural sunset! Resized for web.

Such a beautiful pic. I think that no flash would have been a great decision here, as it sort of interferes with the beautiful golden glow of the sunset. I must say I haven't seen that shade of gold in a sunset here.
Potatoes/potahtoesYes, it's interesting isn't it? (The feedback, I mean.)
I did take a couple with less/no flash, and the silhouette look didn't quite gel with me. Maybe I'll post one of those too. From a technique perspective, I found that there were quite a few variables in this situation:
WB setting - preset, flash or other? exposure variation D70? exposure variation SB800? bracketing And people think photography is easy!
AlternativeAlthough vertical instead of horizontal format, same subject; same treatment:
For me, the fill flash has a little more impact - what do you think? And another one - fill flash with a different EV to my original post: Last edited by the foto fanatic on Thu Feb 10, 2005 5:45 pm, edited 1 time in total.
G'day,
To me the lighting on the first one is too bright, but the last one with softer lighting on the couple on the bench seems more "natural" to me... Although I prefer the composition of the first... Maybe soften the light on the couple in the first shot in PP? Cheers, Mudder Aka Andrew
Stand the people up..
Move them 8 feet to the right.. Set them arms-length apart.. Have them hold hands.. Drop into a crouch behind them.. Leave the shutter open a little longer.. Presto-chango! That's what I would do, but it would've been a posed shot which I tend to dislike.. Still a lovely capture of a lovely sunset.. PlatinumWeaver / Dean

Wow! Great ideas, but a sunset only lasts for a few moments!!!
Wonderful sunset shot, personally the people in the shot is fine, makes for a great "classic memory", the colours are spectacular. BTW, was there ever more entertaining cricketers than KD Walters, M Waugh and Ian "Beefy" Botham? I think not. Just a thought. In actual fact, I have an old kodak instamatic snap of Dougie and Gary Gilmour at the SCG circa 1975, taken as a 13 yo kid! How times have changed.

Hi OzimaxSorry - just noticed your post.
Yes, you've sure named some entertainers in that group - including one Gary Gilmore. We have some crackers now too though - Tendulkar, Dravid, Hayden, Gilchrist, Lara. There's a lot for a little cricketfan to be happy about at the moment! Cheers
