Newcastle - National Maritime FestivalHi,
The National Maritime Festival is on again in Newcastle. This will be on the weekend of Oct 6-7, 2007. There will be quite a few things to do and see. I'm just gathering some details, so if you know more, post in this thread. Things to see: - Two Navy RAN Minesweepers – HMAS ‘Yarra’ and HMAS ‘Norman’ - Historic HM Bark Endeavour - Tall Ship James Craig - High Tech ACV Customs Vessel – ‘Roebuck Bay’ - Maritime Theme Mattara Parade on Sunday, more info - FREE tours of the Working Port - ‘Fantasea Crystal’ high speed catamaran The Endeavour is meant to arrive on Friday 5th. The James Craig is scheeduled to arrive at Lee Wharf at 5pm on Saturday. It will be leaving Sydney Harbour around 6am for those in Sydney that would like to see it sailing, more info. As I find more information, I'll add it to this thread. If anybody is interested in meeting up, let me know. I was planning to at least try to catch the tall ships coming in the harbour. Cheers, André (edit: put day of arrival for James Craig) Last edited by radar on Fri Sep 28, 2007 2:13 pm, edited 1 time in total.

bugger bugger bugger bloody broken leg. At least the cast is off on 17th so maybe the hillclimb on 20th will be my first outing for a while. Get some great pics when this comes around André and do us Novocastrians proud.

Peter,
I'm happy to pick you up and drive you around for this if you are interested. I was thinking of going to Stockton to capture the tall ships and have Nobbys in the background but haven't decided yet. cheers, André Photography, as a powerful medium of expression and communications, offers an infinite variety of perception, interpretation and execution. André Thanks for the generous offer (a great example of why I love this forum), but I'll decline. One thing I've learnt in the past few weeks is to accept my limits. It's just not practical to attempt photography on crutches since there isn't enough mobility especially when you need one hand for the camera and one for each crutch. There's always next year Peter

Just a quick update on arrival times of various ships. According to the Newcastle Port shipping times, arrivals are as follows:
-The two Navy mine hunters: Friday 10am -Endeavour: Friday 2:30pm -James Craig: Saturday 5:00pm The shipping movements details can be found below: http://www.newportcorp.com/page_shipping.aspx?pageID=58 If you don't want to miss the arrivals, make sure you are at your expected location in plenty of time beforehand. I checked with one of my neighbours, who is a pilot for the port, and he says that those times tend to be fairly accurate. I'll try to be on the Stockton side for the Endeavour arrival. Peter,
You have limits???? Why not set up a camera mount of some sort on one of your crutches? Shouldn;t be too hard. g.

The Endeavour will be leaving on Wednesday at a time TBN. Photography, as a powerful medium of expression and communications, offers an infinite variety of perception, interpretation and execution. Ansel Adams
