D3 & D300 high ISO photos

Postby Grev on Wed Oct 10, 2007 8:27 am

Well these aren't rumours ( ) and I haven't seen these being posted here so here are two links for high ISO photos from these 2 cameras, but of course they're preproduction models.

Thanks for sharing, Grev. While neither camera is on my shopping list it's good to see some more images of where the Nikon bodies are going. The D3 is very impressive, but until now I had my doubts about the D300 and how it would perform at high iso, it's not a D3 or upto the high end Canons, but it looks much better then my D70 or D200.

I reckon ISO1600 on the D300 looks between ISO400 and 800 on the D200 in terms of noise, and ISO3200 on the D300 looks between ISO800 and 1600 on the D200. So for the D300 it looks somewhere around a 1.5 stop improvement in noise, not bad. :)

I actually found the D300 is quite comparable to Canon's 40D, I guess with the pixel size disadvantage it's not going to be as good as the top cameras from both companies.

They can't confirm a price but they said it will be whatever RRP it is from Nikon. I said that's fair.

praimaging quoting $2699 for D300 and $7300 for D3.

Of course where this sits compared to RRP and street price I don't know.
