POTW 10 October 2007Choosing Picture of the Week is always both an edifying and a daunting task and this week is no exception. This week, as every week, there was a high standard of quality images shared by our fellow members and as always I have found the decision difficult.
My choice this week is from a member whose skills and passion for their chosen style of photography I have seen develop over the last few years. Additionally he has been a great role model and teacher for many others here. This week he shared quite a few images, but this one I have chosen has an indefinable something that really made it stand out for me. It has lovely muted tones, is subtly lit to make the most of the striking model and is rounded out by great post processing. Congratulations Wendell. The original post is HERE and my choice for POTW appears below. Peter

I am continuing to marvel at the development in Wendell's art.
Not just the mechanics. If it was all about calculating exposure, choosing the right focus point, calculating the most appropriate DOF... you get the picture (sorry about the pun ) - everyone could do it. What it is about is the visual impact of the work. Does it stand on its own as a photograph; does it tell or imply a story; are there elements in it that bring you back again and again? Wendell's work has these features, and more. As a photographer he is very good, but as an art director he is outstanding. There are people in these pages who wonder why their work doesn't draw the same level of comment as Wendell's work does. Sometimes it is hard to be totally objective about your own efforts, particularly in comparison to someone who is more gifted. Wendell has discovered a level of sophistication that (IMO) is unmatched on these pages. While he continues to photograph in broadly the same genre, each set of pix is unique in its own way, and to me at least, that shows that he has an excellent conceptual understanding of what he seeks to achieve. I'm not surprised any more when Wendell wins a PotW, but I am always thankful to see it. Congrats to the photographer and an excellent choice from stubbsy. TFF (Trevor)

Awesome choice and a testament to some who 'is' infinitely' more gifted than all who grace this site (JMHO) in his chosen field.....his work is unsurpassed as far as i am concerned.....and as has been mentioned always lends an ear when needed or asked...well done!

Congrats Wendell, thoroughly deserved award. The down side is that after looking at your portraiture, it makes me want to give up and take up gardening or macrame or chess...
Nevertheless, I am inspired to keep learning and improving. A wonderful, dreamy and tasteful image. Ozi. President, A.A.A.A.A (Australian Association Against Acronym Abuse)
