surprise... got 7pgs published!

Postby jamesw on Fri Oct 12, 2007 11:02 am

wow is all i have to say.

this article had been in the pipeline for months, it had been on my mind. i put it to the editors, they were happy with it too. they basically said shoot it, and if the photos are good, we'll run it...

the idea was that i go out, shoot a bunch of adelaide street riding... but instead of me writing an article on it, each rider would write their own extended caption, explaining the shot and how they felt about it. and they'll publish between 2 and 4 pages. up untill now, i had only ever had one or half page shots published with this particular mag (the biggest bmx one in aust)... so a 2 page article was definitely cool and 4 pages was like, crazy!

so anyway, we go out and shoot the article. it was a huge pain organising people, plus it was the middle of winter so the weather was yuk. every second date i organised with someone, we'd have to cancel cause of weather.

so anyway i managed to string together about 10 or so shots of ten different riders, and got captions organised. i sent it through, and the editor i was talking with said he liked the shots.

that was the last thing i heard. i sent probably 3 or 4 more emails asking whats going on, do they think theyre going to run it, are they happy with the shots, do they need me to reshoot anything etc.

but nothing.

so i had basically given up, i assumed that they werent into the article and that it was back to the drawing board.

untill i get a phone call last night from a mate thanking me for shooting a shot of him, that he was super stoked, and i was like WTF?!

if anyone wants to see the article, its called 2020 and is availible at most newsagents in the bicycle section. page 52... and the 7 pages to follow

Awesome stuff James congratulations you must be stoked, what a surprise. (Shame they didn't communicate it back to you, but that's a minor annoyance). Excellent stuff!

Stoked is an understatement.

All the guys are going to be equally psyched - I had told everyone that the article wasn't getting published!

7 pages is a major coup! Shows you how impressed they are with your work. Congratulations! Now ask them if you can become a paid contributing editor.

Mate that is brilliant. I am glad that you preserved and were rewarded for your hard work organising what must have been a difficult shoot. Well done.
