Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent. Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature. Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread. Shooting portraits like this is notoriously difficult but well worth the effort. If you look closely at your image you will notice that most of the image space is taken up with her back...and there is nothing of interest to see there. Human backs are rarely interesting. Her face is given only a small part of the image space but we have no eye contact or expression to hold our interest. Her hair takes up a great deal of image space and once again...not much to hold our attention. Her hand and her lips are the most interesting part of the image but of themselves are not exciting enough to make the image sparkle. Can you see where I am going with this? With female portraits we want to see eyes, body curves, expressions, attitude, light and shade, fashions, sexy poses, classical poses and beautiful backgrounds. Long legs, breasts and cleavages, mystery, seduction, purity, innocence, agression, power, fragility, lace, health, vitality, beauty, pride etc etc. You have a great model and you need to go back and liase with her to come up with creative ideas in order to produce better images. Champagne and music are 2 well tried aids. But not if she is your sister. Regards

Matt,
Thanks for the very detailed and constructive critique. I understand exactly what you mean. This is an on-going project and we are both experimenting. We started with a few ideas but ended up some where else, and are still experimenting. The complete collection from the shoot can be found here: http://www.alexgitlits.com/gallery/Ing2.asp Thanks again, Alex

Just had a look at your gallery and I like the first picture very much. Try using some props (flowers, chairs, windows, hats etc). Go to ST Vinnies and get some long black gowns, furs etc. That should move things along nicely. Regards
