In 2 weeks i hope to get a few better ones when i go to this years Event,with my Nikon D200 and Nikon AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm F/4.5~5.6 G IF-ED attached

thanks mind you one of the things you do when camping track side is drink vast amounts of beer, i am amazed more shots with missing heads was not taken

Ok Conundrum, you need to work on some of them shots but as taken with the 70-300g you can expect it not to be too great as they are not a fast focus lens.

Good to see you have a pic of my mate in the 2nd top pics, the Canon shooter and we went to Moto GP together last year so i gather these pics are from then. Well keep trying and you can acheive very good shots with the D70 just takes practice.

Im hoping to get better shots this year as ive updated both lens and body! BUT there still not going to be as good as your shots unless VR is really .I do hope one day to be able to get some faster glass but I will just have to use what I can afford till then .

As for when, they came outa my 2005 directory as I killed my D70 really early in 2006 and only had a POS point and shoot cam till only a month or so ago when I got a D200

Whilst the 70-300G is a slow lens, it can produce some great shots. The biggest issue with it is the softness at full focal length.

I've not used the newer VR variant of the 70-300 so cannot comment, but the quality is supposedly much better. I too am a self-confessed bike freak as well after shooting rounds 5 and 6 of the Australian Superbikes at QR. They really are great fun to shoot.

Getting close to the action really helps, these were taken with the D200 70-200VR and 1.7 TC.

I can't wait to see some more photos from you, whilst these were taken from a distance, compositionally they look good (except the head cut off moment )

I'll be heading down to the Island with My D200, 70-200vr , 1.7 tc so how near do I have to get to get shots like yours... are these out of camera or are they cropped and are you using the full 340mm

also what software/addons are you using for your galleries, they are great

Moving a little off topic, but will help everyone none the less.

The first day (June 30) I was standing about 15m in from the apex of the corner, so not using the full length. Some are cropped a little as I was a little wider to allow for putting them in the wrong spot in frame as it really depended where I caught them coming into the corner

The second day was a mixture of 3 - 5m from the track so I wasn't using the TC at that stage, as well as using the full focal length for some of them with the TC. realistically I don't notice much difference with using it or not.

Using the 340mm effective length I was sitting out just inside the spectator fence, this would be about 25 - 30m I think from memory. These are cropped a bit more, a 400mm would be ideal for that style of shooting.

The software is Monokai's flash slideshow coupled with Gallery 2, there is coding in a custom gallery theme to pull the items from the gallery album and populate the xml file for Monokai's slideshow.

Well i hope you enjoy the D200 as i must get a new 1 soon as my D70 has died and was used to take the crash shots of lorris, first pic with D2x as last year i shot from the inside, anyhow wish i was goi9ng to be there year but shit happens and get lots of pics.

took lots of picks as the track over the weekend (Only just got home from 4 days of drinking way too much and next to no sleep camping trackside )and thought i would link one...it may not be as good as BBJ's pick in quality...BUT at least i chose a better bike to shoot......Doctor who?

I saw lots of guys in Hawaiian shirts... but no one was carrying a D200
If you were there on Thursday under your blow up palm tree I was the only person (red T shirt) on the other side of the fence near the track taking photos (I found an open gate and nobody stopped me)
I have to unpack the van then download 4,000+ photos so I will take a little time till I get some up here will start a new post tonight

I did not have it on me all of the time i was using my Canon IXUS 75 in an underwater case most of the time from how bad the weather was, I did not take lotsa picks of the bikes till Sunday and was up between turn 11 and 12 for the big race...most of my pics are things we got up to in the campgrounds and lotsa shots of them promo girls ( yes...im a dirty bugger) i took just over 1600 pictures so it’s going to take me a bit to pick and choose what i post in my photobucket account

All good pics and lots of fun, one of my work mates bought me home a poster as i was unable to get there this year but eye glued to tv. If i didnt have so much crap to carry would have been a good run to run in my New Kawasaki ZRX1200R.
