Great model to work with !
i found a little jumper in a pot plant on my back deck and i got him. he was the perfect model and was maybe 5mm long. he happily climbed climbed onto my fingers every now and then so i could reposition him for the best possible light and colour. PP is minimal to zero which i was pretty happy with aswell.
got the lighting, backgrounds and DOF right so i'm pretty proud of these, haven't felt that way in a while so i thought i might share a few. C&C more than welcomed. let me know what you think. 
out of around 120 shots, these are my favourites. looking right at me. 
you can even see the catchlight from the lightbox in his eyes !

These are sensational....love the first one.....so vibrant.....personally hate spiders.....lol

Yeah, they do make great models.
Number 1 is so clear and crisp with just the right amount of depth of field. The second one looks good but it is a little small. The third is a very interesting take on the subject.

thanks all. i put alot of effort into these so nice to see they paid off.
antsl, i used the sigma 150mm and a 36mm extn tube. i find using the whole set which is 58mm, (i think), makes the lens too unstable and i get too much shake. all except that middle one which if you notice is more set back and dosen;t have the same magnification. this lens still stuns me every now and then. I beg to differ - I love #2 !! It shows off the quirky personality that jumping spiders have - the little terriers of the spider world - gorgeous - even more so to me with the angle of the head suggesting a slight cheeky side to the spider ....
maybe I've been hanging around insects and spiders too long  LOL

yeah, i thought the same thing when i was shooting. my first 10-20 were all with him totally in focus at around f11. it wasn;t until i chimped a little and realised that the problem with the deeper dof is he wasn't isolated from the background enuf and there is too much distraction taking the attention off his cheeky face, (if thats possible). imo, the eyes and head of the little fella are the key focal point cos they are such a fun sorta critter. it kinda de-spiderises him. lol thanks for the suggestion though yi-p. #2 almost looks as if it's wearing a pair of sunnies ...
In #3, can you play with your curves on this, and pull a little detail out in the face? The overall effect is stunning, but adding some detail in the face would add just that much more to this shot. g.

played with curves and couldn;t bring anything out of it thats worth keeping. lost too much detail and it just looks like a mess. cos i had the sb800 firing from behind and far left to create the silhouette i could easily have held a reflector in front and bounced some light back onto his face. oh well...live and learn.
