Surf Photos from last Friday
This time got the upload right to pixspot. Both these taken last Friday at Diggers Beach, Coffs Harbour. Max.
I was about 70 metres out in the surf, up to my knees, sometimes the waves would splash up to waist level, then I would hoist the precious D70 above my head just to be sure of keeping it dry!
Low tide, with sun fairly well behind me. I think midday sun is best for good blues and greens, but most of the surfers don't come out until they've finished work for the day. Thanks for the comments, BTW, I have a few photos being considered by "Tracks" magazine at the moment, hope they will publish some. Max

Thanks for the compliment Chris! Actually, I'm not the surfer type- never possessed the right balance etc, but since obtaining this D70 which has speed to burn, and living on the coast, I get a great deal of enjoyment photographing the boardies.
I'm just waiting for the right day - huge swell, crisp sunny skies, heaps of surfers, day off work, 24 deg C water temp....
You should try and get to Diamond Head in Hawaii the wind surfers there are awesome and would make for some fantastic photos Chris

I had my first surf lesson on Bondi this saturday and I think i'm already hooked.
If you ever want to take a picture of someone repeatedly falling off then I'm your man. Matt
Hawaii is on my to-do list, hopefully back to sth island NZ sometime this year for some more photos at Mt Cook, this time with a real camera and that beautiful Nikkor 18-70 lens.

Fine action shots ozimax! Top stuff considering how difficult these can be to capture just at the correct split second. The harder you fight for your images, the better they get.
Before I found interest in photography, I used to race roadbikes. Often I would be hunting down people in the paddock to take shots or those who had to buy some prints from them. I knew racing was but a fleeting moment of my existance and I'm glad I got some momentos before I left the scene. Perhaps you might be able to sell some prints to these guys? They are worthy of print and sale from my viewpoint. Cheers, Shoot early - Shoot often

Don't stop, if you enjoy them then keep posting 
I like this one the best of your lot so far. You have a good sense of the wave for a non surfer. It is always good to sit back and watch for a while to see what the surfers are doing and which ones you should keep your eye on. If you go to the same spot everytime try getting to know some of the better surfers and tell them you are going to photograph them, you'll be surprised at how much more effort they will put in (you might get your famed Tracks shot). Good to see a fellow Tamron 70-300er getting good results The standard for surf photography is extremely high But I think your well on the way Maybe you could mix it up a bit - show more of the wave in your pictures - the combination of the surfer doing the manouvre and the shape of the wave is a winning combination - Have a look at some surfing mags to see what i mean Also, depending on the topography in your area, look for rocky headlands that give you elevated (dry) shooting positions with the surfers still close enough to give you the result - or breakwalls etc Of cos when the bug really bites your going to have to get the waterproof housing so you can right amongst the action And yes keep posting them Regards John

I do indeed have a few good headlands and rocks that are great for photographing surfing, it's just that they're hit and miss, the swell has to be just right and the day has to coincide eg public hols, after work for surfers, right light, right wind conditions, sunshine etc. I suppose that photography is just that, being patient and waiting for all the conditions to come into play at the right time! Max, they are great shots, you certainly have a talent for this type of photography.

Deb, Gallows depends a lot on the swell, these days it mainly has a multitude of grommets on their shark biscuits (knee boards etc) which aren't as good for photos as surfboards.

but, please tell me ..... .....is Little Diggers still topless or have they wrecked that tradition too?
