Dilemma on the 50 one-point-fourSince I work at Photo Continental here in Brisbane now, I get to muck around with all sorts of cameras and lenses, and I decided to play around with some of the 1.4 lenses around the place.
To put this short, I quite like the Sigma 30mm 1.4, I like the Nikon 50mm 1.4 as well but when shot wide open and up close I see lots of the ugly chromatic abberation, so I ask, is this a bad sample or a known issue? Note that the Sigma lacked any of the purple fringing wide open... Blog: http://grevgrev.blogspot.com

Grev - I own the 50 1.4 (Nikon) and I've never had any case of CA with this lens. I know there's quite a few other owners of this particular lens out there too, maybe it's a one off dud?

Hmm you are going to be pestered a bit I dare say I can't comment as I've not used a 50mm 1.4
Same... Now could you bump me to the top of PC's D300 list!!!!Worth a try MATT
Anyway, I do think that particular 50mm 1.4 is a dud, stopped it down to 2.8 and it was gone, but no less, wasn't that pretty wide open.
And about the D300, there are many backorders so I can't help you there. Also about being pestered, I don't mind, thing is we're encouraged to muck around with all the equipment in order to be familiar with them. Blog: http://grevgrev.blogspot.com
