Well I'm back from 11 days travelling the South Island of NZ. After culling I have around 1,500 pics to process. Here are a few that grabbed me from the first batch. Apart from #1 there are little niggly dislikes I have with the others, but I am a perfectionist. I'd be interested in your critiques.

Shot #3 was taken with my Nikkor 10.5 fisheye and defished. The remainder were all taken with the Nikkor 28-70

No. 3 is mind-blowing, Peter - great perspective. I love No.2 also.

Gorgeous Peter, really beautiful images and I look forward to seeing many more from your trip (glad you made it back safely, and hopefully no more broken bones).
For the record #1 and #4 are my favourites from this set.

I think you have a white on white there for Number 1. Number 3 is great image.

Great pics Peter. My favourite is #4, but I'm not too sure why. It just grabs me. How did you get/create the flare at the top of the crucifix?

#3 is a close second for me. The colour in the water just drags you into the picture.

I'll be in NZ for most of January and am looking forward to getting some great images while I'm there.

Cheers

Thanks for the feedback people.

#4 was an interesting experiment. My aim was for a different take on the "mountains + church window" thing at Church of the Good Shepherd since it's one of those widely seen images.

I decided to use the flash to light the interior so we saw some of its detail too. Trouble was the flash reflects off the glass (d'oh). The solution was what you see here in the final image - position the photo angle so the flash is behind the cross as a part of the image. This meant crouching down which, given my leg was only removed from a cast 1 week earlier after 7 weeks of no movement, was no mean feat.

Below is an alternate attempt on that concept - this time outside looking in - not as strong an image. I find this odd like those 3d picture puzzles where depending on how I focus on the image I see the mountains or the inside of the church

Sorry, Peter - I saw these before and didn't get a chance to comment at the time.

#3 brings a fresh perspective to a water shot. The wake and the fluttering flag give us the positioning on a boat, and the water and background mountains have terrific detail and colour.

I really like it.

They are all great pictures. Apart from the colour and composition, you must have also very good equipment.

Ok now you are making me homesick, especially as I come from that end of the country.

Interestingly, #3 is my least favourite of these... not sure why, I think I have a preconception of how I think Milford Sound should look which doesnt match. I would like this more if I didnt know the location.

Stubbsy - your shots are getting more difficult to 'critique'!! They are awesome! If I had ONE criticism with this series is the photo on it's own, the inside lights of the church are distracting - if you could clone these out I think it'd be a winner of a shot. Great stuff none the less!

Great shots Peter,

it doesn't look like the "new" leg got in the way :D

My fav would be #1, I would have preferred it without the footprints, but that's only a very minor niggle.

Also love #2. I've been at that location in late spring and the snow was gone so the one you got is really nice.

I'll go against the grain and say that #4 doesn't do much for me. It is however a very different perspective 8)

Cheers,

André

Nice work! I love NZ south island. Did you get to Lake Wanaka and Lake Matheson? I would love to see your shots of them. I have some too, but I am still trying to work out how to up-load!

You had a much nicer day at Kaikoura than we did, yous pic has much more colour to it. I think my pics were taken from about 100m behind your's. :)
Lovely all round.
