Picked up our D300 Today

Postby Nikon boy on Fri Nov 23, 2007 3:49 pm

Just picked up a new D300 from Camera Exchange in Melbourne !!
Evidently they received Four in the first batch, luckily i was 3rd on the waiting list !!

Battery is charging and am downloading Nikon NX which i received a free copy of with the camera (is this a first from Nikon ??)

As i have a D2x i will be comparing them over the next few days and will post my findings if anyone is interested

There is nothing like a nice new Gold box mmmmm

Well done !! :D :D (Mine will be here on Monday, hopefully)
Will you be able to upload NEF's with NX or is there an update happening?

Cheers
Marc

There's an update needed if you want to read them, but the files will be big.

Try LightRoom 1.3 has Nef support for the D300.

Isnt it the longest time waiting for a battery to charge????

There was a thread earlier this week with a link to ViewNX.

It supports the new bodies, and it's free.

O.K. Initial hands on reveals that

Feels good in the hand , controls aren't as well placed as the D2X but nothing really bad stands out
Great viewfinder
Fantastic LCD Screen
zoom function is great compared to D2X
High iso looks like it could be interesting have taken a few shots indoors at 800 1600 2000 and i can't believe my eyes they look great, when zoomed in of course you can see some grain/noise but it is restrained and looks natural (sorry can't find right words)

I have to go out to a function tonight and can't take the camera with me so will post some images tomorrow (have just downloaded some pics taken at iso 2500 and they are looking great on the screen, blown up to 100% you see grain/noise but these images indicate my flash is history,,,
Capture one recognises files as does Capture NX ver 3 , elements 6 and cs3

I have had my D70 and D2X since new and when they were first released and i reckon (in comparison) from my initial experiences this camera is a winner ,,,it just feels good

Thank you Nikon

Now how do i get enough money together for a D3 Hmmmmm

Adobe RAW is available for CS3 that handles D300 and D3 NEF’s :)

Any idea Gary if our D300's will come with Capture NX software?
And also any word yet on the MB-D10 grip availability?

Marc,

No, and no.

My expectation is yes for the NX though, but we'll know more in a few days.

No idea at all on the grip, nor (still) on the 24-70 - I asked again this afternoon.
